Overview

The Research department at Alnylam has an exciting opportunity available for a highly motivated research scientist to join our Next Wave biology group. Our mission is to identify new therapeutic siRNA targets across various tissue types to address disease areas with high unmet need and fuel the growing Alnylam pipeline. The position will be working in an interdisciplinary team, closely collaborating with the RNAi platform discovery, human genetics, biology and clinical teams to drive early-stage target discovery and validation work.

This is an on-site position located in Cambridge, MA.

Summary of Key Responsibilities

  • Identify novel RNAi targets using human genetics, literature search and systems biology approaches
  • Develop, design and execute in vitro and in vivo models to experimentally validate the candidate targets
  • Analyze and present data at internal team meetings and stay abreast of relevant scientific literature
  • Manage relationships with contract research organizations (CROs) and/or academic collaborators, including development of research plans and data analysis
  • Work collaboratively across biology, human genetics and RNAi platform teams
  • Mentor junior scientists

Qualifications

  • PhD degree in biology or biomedical sciences-related fields, postgraduate experience of >3 years is a plus but not required
  • Strong track records showing proficiency in characterization of in vitro, ex vivo and in vivo disease models (eg. human iPSC, primary cells, rodent models), with deep understanding of the underlying biological pathways
  • Proficiency in molecular biology and biochemistry is a strong plus
  • Demonstrate broad knowledge across areas of biology including physiology, metabolic pathways and human genetics is strongly desired. Background in immunology or neuroscience is a plus.
  • The candidate must be flexible, able to adapt and apply his/her knowledge to new biological/therapeutic areas, thrive in a fast-paced team environment, and possess excellent communication skills (both written and oral).
  • Prior experience in industry is a plus but not required.
