Job Summary

Carpet installers are skilled tradespeople who install carpets and other types of flooring in residential and commercial buildings.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Measure and assess the area where the carpet will be installed to determine the amount of carpet needed and to identify any special considerations or challenges.
  • Remove old flooring and prepare the subfloor for installation, which may involve cleaning, levelling, or repairing the surface.
  • Cut the carpet to fit the space and lay it out in a way that minimizes waste and maximizes efficiency.
  • Stretch and tack the carpet into place, ensuring that it is smooth, even, and securely attached to the subfloor.
  • Install padding and other materials as needed to improve insulation, soundproofing, or moisture resistance.
  • Trim and finish the edges of the carpet using tools such as a carpet knife or carpet stretcher.
  • Clean up the work area and dispose of old materials and debris.
  • Communicate with clients and other contractors as needed to coordinate installation schedules and ensure that the job is completed to their satisfaction.
  • Adhere to safety regulations and best practices, including using protective equipment and ensuring that work areas are free from hazards.
  • Maintaining tools and equipment, ensuring they are clean, in good working condition, and properly stored.
