Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit |
The Biology and Marine Biology Department supports both an excellent undergraduate program, with an emphasis on hands-on involvement of undergraduates in research and other activities, as well as a nationally recognized Master's Program. Among our newest degree offerings is a PhD in Integrative, Comparative, & Marine Biology, able to take advantage of the wide array of local coastal and offshore habitats and the facilities of the Center for Marine Science located 6 miles from the main university campus. We have an active faculty involved in a variety of research interests including molecular biology and systematics, coastal and estuarine ecology, invertebrate and vertebrate biology, and environmental biology. |

College/School Information |
The College of Science and Engineering offers a variety of programs leading to Bachelor of Science and Master of Science degrees, as well as Doctor of Philosophy degrees in applied coastal and ocean sciences; pharmaceutical chemistry; integrative, comparative, and marine biology; and psychology degrees. The college also offers combined bachelor's/master's degree programs in information technology/computer science and information systems, computer science/computer science and information systems, and B.S. in mathematics/M.S. in mathematics. To implement its academic programs, the college provides instruction and research opportunities in the natural and behavioral sciences, information technology, data science, computer science, mathematics, pre-engineering, and engineering. The eight academic departments in the college provide courses of study in each of these areas, in addition to interdepartmental programs in information technology, cybersecurity, and digital arts. A 2+2 in engineering; and 3+2 programs in computer science and electrical or computer engineering; and physics and electrical engineering, are also offered in the college. Post-baccalaureate certificate programs in environmental studies, applied statistics, and geographic information science are also available.
CSE students work with distinguished faculty and scientists, use cutting edge technology, and conduct impactful research. Faculty-directed research projects empower
CSE students to apply what they learn inside the classroom and laboratory to real-world situations and prepares them for a variety of careers or advanced study. |

Brief Summary of Work for this Position |
The primary purpose of this Administrative Associate position is to provide administrative support to the Biology and Marine Biology Department.
Responsibilities include:
- Enters electronic personnel action forms (EPAFs) for graduate compensation
- Maintain the departmental graduate budget allocations and prepares summary data reports.
- Process grant-funded awards for the graduate students via NextGen
- Maintain confidential records, files and databases including graduate program application materials, degree tracking forms,
- Support the graduate program coordinator, with graduate student issues as they arise
- Assist the department chair with various matters as they arise
- Assist with various office matters including room scheduling, door access, answering telephones and welcoming visitors, directing students to department resources, copying and preparing class materials.
- Planning department events including graduate student orientation, graduate student prospectus symposium, and Department picnics
- Monitor and update the graduate student canvas page
- Other duties as assigned

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements |
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. |
Preferred education, professional skills and experience |
Computer skills: MS Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint. Composition of correspondence, reports; spreadsheets; databases. Must have a high degree of accuracy and excellent written and oral communication skills. Must be highly organized and able to perform in an environment often filled with frequent interruptions. |
