Position Summary:

Vallen's Warehouse/Distribution Center Manager is a staff management position responsible for managing warehouse staff responsible for receiving, unloading, inspecting, picking, packing, and/or shipping goods. They! monitor associate productivity, inventory management, as well as packing and shipping accuracy to ensure quality customer service to all Vallen customers. They also ensure all areas of assigned warehouse operations comply with internal and external safety standards or regulations.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Staff management duties include, but are not limited to: interviewing, selecting, hiring, coaching, counseling, training, delegating work assignments and disciplining associates while enforcing company policies, procedures, and productivity standards.
  • Sets goals and daily productivity expectations while maintaining a positive and collaborative culture built on employee respect; ensures team resources are used effectively and both productivity and profitability targets are achieved.
  • Supports sales growth through excellent customer service and providing supply chain so! lutions; encourages and promotes a high level of customer service with accurate and on-time deliveries.
  • Collaborates and coordinates activities with purchasing to ensure availability of merchandise.
  • Directs reclamation of damaged merchandise; may coordinate transportation schedules.
  • Oversees associate cross-training initiatives; collaborates with the training department for new training initiatives.
  • Participates in on-going process improvement initiatives; monitors the effectiveness of handling procedures and space utilization and make recommendations for improvements; may lead automation and new technology projects.
  • Tracks and performs to Vallen's standardized operating metrics (KOLPI's -- Key Operating Logistics

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of related business experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience that gives the individual the necessary knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the job. Experience should include:
  • Strong computer knowledge and aptitude to learn various applications mandatory; experience with a Warehouse Management System preferred; knowledge of SX.e a plus.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the various warehousing functions, such as loading, unloading, picking, packing, shipping, and moving goods thr! oughout a distribution center/warehouse environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, work orders, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Strong communication skills, effective problem-solving skills, demonstrated use of sound judgment, good organizational skills, and the ability to work effectively in team-oriented environment.
  • Ability to maintain composure, effectiveness, and be flexibility under pressure.
  • Demonstration of basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units to measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals); ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent preferred.
  • Ability to compile routine reports and write correspondence.
  • Ability to work in a team environment and be self-motivated to accomplish assigned tasks and goals.

Staff Management Responsibilities:

  • Immediate supervision over a unit, section, or department where the majority of the time is spent assigning, reviewing, checking work and eliminating ordinary difficulties. Recommends candidates for hiring, termination; prepares and conducts performance appraisals and salary reviews and applies company policies.

  • Work environment may not be temperature controlled; must have the ability to work in extreme hot or cold environments; must be able to work in dusty environments.
  • Long periods of time working on a computer and per! forming repetitive key-boarding activities.
  • Extended day, evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand and may include little to no advanced notice.
  • May be required to handle hazardous materials and wear various forms of protective equipment (shoes, gloves, protective eyewear, etc.).
  • May be required to drive a forklift and/or operate other standard warehouse equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
  • May be required to pass forklift and/or other warehouse equipment certifications (written and/or driving).
  • Must be able to handle and work physical inventory; required to lift up to 25 lbs or greater with assistance following standard operating and safety procedures. Other physical requirements including, regularly being required to stand, walk, kneel, bend! , crouch, crawl, climb and balance.
  • Close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus are required.
