Staff Research Associate III / Lab Manager - CAR T cell projects

Division of Hematology/Oncology

Full Time

82006BR

Job Summary

The Eyquem Laboratory is in need of a Research Associate /Lab Manager to assist with ongoing multidisciplinary CAR T cell projects. Our lab is interested in engineering next generation CAR T cell using the CRISPR/Cas9 system to enhance their activity, specificity, persistence and ultimately improve their therapeutic activity against solid tumor. We showed (Eyquem et al. Nature 2017) that targeting the CAR transgene to specific locus offers optimal CAR expression that prevents undesirable differentiation and exhaustion, which results in superior anti-tumor activity in hematological malignancies. These results greatly improved the understanding of CAR biology by establishing the first link between CAR expression and anti-tumor function. We are now applying these technologies to tackle solid tumor.

Our team includes clinical fellows in Hematology/Oncology, post-doctoral scientists in immunology, graduate students from the BMS program and research associates. Our work spans the fields of T cell immunology, CRISPR genetics and mouse tumor models. A unique collaborative environment involving groups at the Gladstone Institutes and multiple laboratories at UCSF creates a unique collaborative environment that is engaging, diverse and supportive.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary group, the SRA will utilize various protocols to generate the molecular components, such as DNA constructs, necessary for specific cellular engineering experiments. Additional responsibilities will consist of isolation and culture of primary human T cells, as well as functional analysis of engineered cells via Sanger sequencing, next-generation DNA sequencing, and flow cytometry. As a Lab Manager, the SRA will help with ordering, lab organization, biosafety and animal protocol maintenance.

Strong organizational and communication skills are required. For exceptionally skilled applicants, opportunity exists to extend the SRA's role to include the design and completion of cellular editing experiments, as well as in vivo analysis of novel cellular cancer immunotherapies. This position represents an excellent opportunity to gain exposure to basic laboratory skills as well as genetics and genome engineering skills in a dynamic, well-established research environment. This position will help aspiring graduate school or medical school candidates get the research experience and track record needed for a successful application and will foster career development through interactions with a wide variety of scientific researchers at UCSF.
