CHE in NYC: The mission of CHE in NYC is to deliver a unified network of people and programs that are delivering CHE's mission. CHE will fortify the space, support, and resources necessary to amplify existing and/or launch new programs that demonstrate an unwavering commitment to the principles of bidirectional engagement and social justice. The goal is to 1) identify a collaborative team of faculty and administrative leaders to launch the CHE NYC network in a way that is purposeful, that builds on all areas of excellence in the College, and that connects to the highlighted scholarly areas of excellence in health equity, sustainability & society, and technology & human flourishing, 2) Secure and equip a physical and virtual presence for the CHE in NYC network that can accommodate small and large in-person gatherings and remote connections among faculty, industry, program partners, staff, alumni, community members and students, and 3) Resource the network with support necessary to cultivate creative collaborations and innovative explorations across diverse constituencies. Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research (BCTR): The BCTR and its projects and programs expand, strengthen, and accelerate the relationship between cutting-edge research and the design, evaluation, and implementation of policies and practices that enhance human development, health, and well-being. Action Research Collaborative (ARC): The mission of ARC is to develop, implement, and evaluate equitable and sustainable research-practice-policy partnerships that can generate solutions to improve the lives of communities that are too often neglected. Our members approach these partnerships from multiple disciplinary perspectives and methodological approaches - we apply whichever approaches are most relevant for the project at hand. We involve community partners at all phases of the project, and the overarching goal is for these projects to inform interventions and public policies, especially policies that support the well-being of marginalized populations. Cornell University Cooperative Extension-NYC Programs (CUCE-NYC): For over 50 years, CUCE-NYC, part of Cornell's statewide Cooperative Extension system, has brought life-changing, evidence-based programs to communities in all five boroughs of NYC, working in partnership with hundreds of community organizations. CUCE-NYC has program offices in the South Bronx, Jamaica, Queens and Crown Heights, Brooklyn, as well as joint office space with ARC in mid-town Manhattan. Core programs reach over 30,000 NYC residents each year and include the Expanded Food and Nutrition Education Program (EFNEP), 4-H/Youth Development, Parenting Education, Hydroponics/Aquaponics/Aquaculture Learning Labs, the Farmers Market Nutrition Outreach Program, and the NYC Farmers Market Alliance. The Communications Specialist is a critical role within the CHE in NYC team, working closely with the Associate Dean for CHE in NYC, and the Assistant Dean for Communications in the College of Human Ecology. The person in this role must demonstrate experience in developing communications strategy, managing multiple projects simultaneously, and creating compelling content. They will be responsible for creating, implementing, and maintaining effective communications strategies that raise the visibility of Cornell Human Ecology (CHE) departments/units and initiatives in New York City (NYC), including the Cornell University Cooperative Extension-NYC Programs (CUCE-NYC; ~25% of the time) and the Action Research Collaborative (ARC; 25% of the time). The communications specialist will serve as a liaison between CHE and CUCE-NYC and ARC, as well as other Cornell units such as the Bronfenbrenner Center for Translational Research (BCTR), the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS), and University communications, media relations, and government relations teams. These responsibilities are critical to CHE's ability to advance its vision, develop strategic partnerships, build visibility and engagement, and attract funding and resources for the benefit of the College and its constituencies. This position jointly reports to the Associate Dean of CHE in NYC (primary supervisor) and to the CHE Assistant Dean for Communications in Ithaca. While this position is based in New York City, the incumbent will travel to Ithaca two times per year for communications professional development within CHE and across the Cornell communications network. This is a hybrid position with the expectation of working up to 2 day per week remotely and 3 days per week in person in the office located at 570 Lexington Ave., New York, NY. Regular business hours are Monday-Friday from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm. There may be occasional work after hours and on weekends (i.e., special events).
