The English Department at Marist College invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor in African American literature and American ethnic literature to begin in August 2025. A secondary specialization in African Diaspora literature or Latino/a literature is welcome. Depending on teaching and research interests, candidates will be able to contribute to one of our interdisciplinary programs such as Africana Studies, American Studies, and Latin American, Latinx, and Caribbean Studies. Successful candidates will be able to teach First Year Seminar courses, our Writing for College course, and general education courses that contribute to diversifying our curriculum. Candidates must demonstrate strong or potential accomplishments in areas contributing to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and a desire to play a leadership role in advancing Marist's commitment to achieving academic excellence and diversity.
The successful candidate will join colleagues who have been hired as part of our Diversity and Global Studies cluster hiring initiative. The person hired for this position will join faculty in the departments of English, history, world languages and cultures, and political science who focus on Diversity and Global Studies generally, and Africana Studies and Latinx & Latin American Studies specifically. The position is part of a major college-wide hiring initiative with the goal of creating a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive institution.

Minimum Qualifications:
|
A Ph.D. in English or Comparative Literature is required by the Fall 2025 semester. Teaching experience and evidence of teaching effectiveness is required.

Essential Functions:
|
The normal teaching schedule will be a 4-3 load but all first-year, tenure track faculty have a 3-3 teaching load. Faculty who achieve and maintain an outstanding record of scholarship are eligible for a 3-3 teaching load. In addition to teaching and research responsibilities, faculty participate regularly in service activities for our students, Marist College, and the community.

The School of Liberal Arts includes 50 full-time faculty and over 75 part-time faculty. The School of Liberal Arts includes departments in English, history, modern languages, philosophy & religious studies, and political science, and many interdisciplinary programs such as American Studies, African Diaspora Studies, and Latin American & Caribbean Studies. In addition, the ABA approved Paralegal Studies Program and the Pre-Law Program are part of the School of Liberal Arts. The School of Liberal Arts also houses the Center for Civic Engagement and Leadership, the Hudson River Valley Institute, the Weiss Language Center, the Writing Center, and the Marist Theatre Program.
