Invasive Cardiac Associate PD

Summary:

Reports directly to the manager for advanced practice providers and the inpatient medical director for clinical activities with a dotted line to the interventional cardiology director. Robust collaboration with the clinical nurse manager assistant clinical manager and other procedural staff including nurses and technicians expected.

Performs a variety of duties to encompass but not limited to the care and management of patients undergoing invasive and interventional cardiovascular peripheral vascular structural and electrophysiology procedures in accordance with the Brown University Health and The Miriam Hospital*s mission vision and values. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age-specific needs of the patients.

Responsibilities:

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Obtains and records medical histories and physical examinations in the electronic health record in a timely manner. Records pertinent progress and procedural notes and develops individualized treatment plans. Performs pre-admission testing for patients undergoing invasive cardiac peripheral structural and electrophysiology procedures. Obtains anesthesia consultations when appropriate. Functions as first assist during invasive and interventional cardiac and peripheral procedures.

Responsible for monitoring pre-and post-procedural care in the PCU. Responsible for managing post procedure complications in PCU. Consult with attending physician when appropriate. Responsible for initiating life-saving measures in emergency situations.

Responsible for developing plan of care for inpatient admissions based on evidence-based practice completing discharge summaries requesting follow-up appointments completing medication reconciliation and referring to cardiac rehab and other community resources when appropriate. Participates in the education of patients families and caregivers regarding any procedures post-procedural care and expected outcomes and progress.

When needed can initiate inpatient electrophysiology consultations at The Miriam Hospital and communicate findings to electrophysiology attendings. Provide educational and liaison support to the primary care team members. Facilitate scheduling inpatient electrophysiology procedures.

May perform other duties as requested by the attending physician within the nurse practitioner/physician assistant scope of practice.

Participates in quality improvement teams clinical research projects and other committees as needed. Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital/department policies procedures and objectives.

BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Graduate of an accredited physician assistant or nurse practitioner program. Current Rhode Island nurse practitioner or physician assistant license that includes prescriptive privileges. Current Rhode Island DEA license required. Certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP) or the Commission on the Accreditation of Physician Assistants to practice in the expanded role. Certification by the American Heart Association in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) is required.

Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care to patients and families with consideration of aging processes human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process.

EXPERIENCE:

Prior experience in inpatient cardiology emergency medicine or critical care preferred but not required.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Healthcare environment such as acute care hospital physician office and ancillary healthcare enterprises. Works with medical equipment and has direct patient contact. Any potential hazards are minimized by adherence to established safety procedures and precautions including the use of safety equipment and protective clothing.
