Summary:
Under general supervision of the Hospital Attending Physician/Hospitalist in collaboration with clinical nursing staff is responsible for evaluation of and development of treatment plans for the inpatients. Assists in the care and management of medical patients to include but not limited to admission history and physical ongoing assessment and intervention coordination or inpatient and discharge planning. All essential functions performed in this position reflect the age specific needs of the patient. Fosters patient and family centered care and nursing services with the Brown University Health and The Miriam Hospital*s mission vision values with consideration of the life span including all development stages as well as cultural patterns.

Responsibilities:
Obtains and records medical histories performs and records physical examinations records pertinent progress notes in the medical records develops treatment and discharge plans develops follow-up plans and initiates life-saving measures in emergency situations until aid arrives.

Initiates patient status and participates in the development of a patient care management plan with the registered nurses and the attending physician. Provides educational and liaison supports to health care team members.

Participates in the education of patients families and caregivers regarding any procedures post-procedural care and expected outcomes and progress.

May perform other duties as requested by the attending physician/hospitalist including but not limited to evaluation of patients in the emergency room. Always maintains due regard for compulsive communication between the Physician Assistant and the attending physician or his/her delegate.

Participates in quality improvement teams and other committees as needed.

Maintains quality assurance safety environmental and infection control in accordance with established hospital department policies procedures and objectives.

Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:

Graduate of a Physician*s Assistant Program. Current RI Physician Assistant license. Completion of a course in American Heart Association Basic Life Support/Advanced Cardiac Life Support.

EXPERIENCE:

Two years experience in an acute care hospital or physician practice.
