Summary:

State Tested Nurse Assistant (STNA) assist in delivering individual care for a patient under the supervision of a licensed nurse.

Responsibilities:

  1. The STNA actively interfaces with patients and families of Akron Children's Hospitals Pediatric Offices
  2. Provides direct care, vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, BP, height, weight, head circumference), or other care to patient according to Hospital policy and procedure as delegated by and under the supervision of the licensed nurse.
  3. Performs vision and hearing screenings.
  4. Completes and obtains all samples in relation to POCT (Point of Care Testing)
  5. Accurately communicates patients' findings and pertinent information to the licensed nurse
  6. Performs clerical and support duties including answering phones and order entry as needed
  7. Helps maintain department operations by ordering, stocking of supplies, cleaning equipment and exam rooms
  8. Documentation of care within the EPIC system will be completed in a precise, accurate manner abiding by established guidelines for charting
  9. Participates in the education offerings of the department and/or nursing unit
  10. Follows safety policies in the delivery of care to assure a safe environment for patients, families, and other staff members
  11. Other duties as assigned

Other information:

Technical Expertise

  1. Knowledge of and or experience in medical terminology required
  2. Experience working in healthcare environment is required
  3. Experience working with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Excel, Word) or similar software is required
  4. Experience working in electronic medical record (i.e. EPIC) or similar software is preferred.

Education and Experience

  1. Education: High School Diploma or equivalent is required
  2. Completion of State approved Program or coursework required
  3. Certification: Basic Life Support (BLS) training from the American Heart Association is required
  4. Years of relevant experience: Minimum of one (1) year of experience is preferred
  5. Years of experience supervising: None
