Keysight Technologies
United States, California, Santa Rosa
1400 Fountaingrove Parkway (Show on map)
Nov 13, 2024
Overview

This is a research internship where the student will perform scientific experimentation to develop new knowledge and design prototype measurement capability on existing Keysight hardware and software solutions used in satellite communication systems. You'll bring your innovative ideas and skills to create software while partnering with industry leading engineers in electronic measurement. You will solve tough technical challenges and make an immediate impact.

This internship will take place at Keysight's headquarters facility in Santa Rosa, California U.S.A. under the tutelage of expert AEs in Keysight's Aerospace and Defense Industry Solution Team.

You will be a member of a high-performance team of Application Engineers and Solution Experts focused on an exciting application related to testing of satellite communication digital intermediate frequency interoperability (DIFI) standard that will be used for military and commercial satellite communications applications.

In this internship, you will be working with Keysight professionals in a proactive and highly collaborative manner using your strong set of skills: RF measurement experience, software programming and technical communication. This role requires some understanding of basic RF theory, digital signal processing, and willingness to learn about RF free-space propagation, digital measurement techniques, and software automation programming.

Keysight is on the forefront of technology innovation, delivering breakthroughs and trusted insights in electronic design, simulation, prototyping, test, manufacturing, and optimization. Our ~15,000 employees create world-class solutions in communications, 5G, automotive, energy, quantum, aerospace, defense, and semiconductor markets for customers in over 100 countries. Learn more about what we do.

Our powerful, award-winning culture embraces a bold vision of where technology can take us and a passion for tackling challenging problems with industry-first solutions. We believe that when people feel a sense of belonging, they can be more creative, innovative, and thrive at all points in their careers.

Responsibilities

  • Learn the basics of our recently introduced digital intermediate frequency interoperability (DIF) satellite solutions.
  • Develop an understanding of Keysight's approach to "cross-domain" digital to RF measurements using PathWave vector signal analysis and signal generation, and BreakingPoint traffic generation software solutions.
  • Learn how to operate various Keysight hardware solutions including signal analyzers, vector signal generators, and network traffic generators and packet brokers.
  • Use this knowledge to write custom prototype software/firmware to automate, process and extract measurement results. Desired programming experience in any of the following programming languages: C#, C++, Java, Python or HDL.
  • Develop and give a final presentation summarizing the work and research results at the end of the internship

Qualifications

  • On path to completion of Bachelors or Masters Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or Computer Science/Engineering (BSEE/MSEE or EECS or BSCE/CS with an expected graduation date in 2025/26.
  • Completion of 2 years of basic electrical engineering or computer science engineering. Highly desired, but not required courses, include digital signal processing and at least one course in Analog Electronics or RF theory.
  • Excellent programming skills, and some familiarity with basic application programming of measurement instrument using Python scripts or C#, some DSP experience using HDL. The ability to learn new programming languages.
  • Desired but not required: Prior laboratory experience with any RF measurement equipment: Network Analyzers, Spectrum Analyzers and RF Signal Generators
  • Ability to work toward objectives independently
  • Solid verbal and written technical communication skills
