We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Chicago for a Director II Accounting on our Finance team. This is a hybrid position reporting into our Chicago, IL office, requiring 3 days a week in the office.

As a Director II Accounting, you will Direct or perform accounting functions, analyses, and reporting associated with business operations, affiliate accounting, accounts receivable and general accounting activities (asset and liabilities). Main support for business operations product development and acquisition work, questions and problems.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Direct the Accounting Functions

  • Direct the accounting for all functions related to sales, billings, inventory control, obsolescence and reconciliation for book and products, database licensing, advertising, subscriptions, web product sales, online publications.
  • Meet with the business units to understand events effecting operations and develop trend analyses.
  • Monitor trends in the business area, assist in helping the business units understand the financial statements and provide financial counseling.
  • Review and approve all business contracts, including incentive arrangements.
  • Coordinate and manage the preparation of the annual budget and reforecasts of the business units; review budget and forecast for accuracy and reasonableness based on trends.
  • Perform quarterly financial reviews with business operations and annual budget reviews on business with COO and CEO.
  • Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles by developing in-house policies and procedures.
  • Main audit contact for business activities.
  • Participate
    in Finance, Audit, and House of Delegates Reference Committee meetings
    including presentation preparation and responding to questions from BOT members.

Maintain the Accounting Records

  • Maintain the accounting records of the Association on a current basis in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and
  • internal objectives for accurate interim and final financial statements, focusing on business activities and Association assets/liabilities.
  • Coordinate and manage the monthly financial close with Director of Financial Reporting, including transaction review and proper accrual accounting according to the close schedule Tax return preparation and filings for subsidiary and association.

Direct the daily operations

  • Direct the daily
    operation of the accounts receivable and order entry (Lawson) functions.
  • Responsible for the overall performance of the automated accounts receivable and order entry systems (Lawson) to ensure system growth and maintain performance incorporating
    available technologies.
  • Manage areas responsible for grant accounting
    support, including responsibility for reviewing all grant applications and
    contracts.
  • Coordinate special audit of grant activities

May include other responsibilities as assigned

REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Required Bachelor's degree in accounting (CPA very desirable)
  2. 15+ years of specialized experience combined professional & managerial experience in industry or public accounting, with specific expertise in publishing and licensing business
  3. Current knowledge of accounting standards and pronouncements.
  4. Strong personal computer literacy required.
  5. Strong planning and organizing skills required.
  6. Good presentation skills
