Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Worldwide is an internationally recognized leader in online education. The Instructional Design and Development (IDD) team plays a key role in teaching and learning for the ERAU Worldwide Campus and the Academic Innovation team. The Academic Innovation team is made up of diverse skill sets and individuals, including Software Developers, UX Research Analysts, Learning Support and Development Specialists, Instructional Technologists, Instructional Designers, Instructional Consultants, Media Producers, and Digital Media Specialists. Those positions work collaboratively to apply their expertise on the creation and implementation of innovative solutions and on the identification of tools and technologies that address big challenges in education.

The Embry-Riddle Instructional Design and Development Internship Program is aimed at recognizing emerging talent within the field of instructional design for online learning in higher education. Instructional design interns will grow both technically and personally through their experience working closely with their instructional designers, directors, media producers, and digital media specialists. The IDD team is dedicated to providing an experience that allows for the intern to gain higher education experience by assigning them to course production projects that are critical to their team's success. Over the course of this internship program, the IDD intern will get hands-on experience and learn about the intricacies of instructional design in a creative, dynamic work environment. Each intern will work closely with their mentor at the beginning of the internship to identify their particular goals to achieve. Specific projects will be assigned based on these goals.

Interns will be compensated bi-weekly over the course of the internship.

Job Description:

As part of the IDD team, the intern will experience partnering with stakeholders to assess and design solutions aligned with learning outcomes and create instructional content that supports award-winning course design. This position will support and deliver on projects, playing a pivotal role in their success. The intern will work with a team of Instructional Designers, Digital Media Specialists, and Digital Media Producers, to determine learning goals and design solutions. Additionally, the intern will experience hands-on what it is like to create, manage, and evaluate courses, curriculum, and deliverables within the scope of the role. A wide degree of creativity and self-motivation is expected.

Responsibilities:

  • Work with members of the IDD team to design and develop engaging, innovative, and effective online course materials with clear strategies and tactics to achieve desired learning outcomes.
  • Create new content and review and revise existing learning content in our Learning Management System.
  • Collaborate with Media Producers and Digital Media Specialists to create interactive online course content.
  • Create adult learning solutions through various instructional design methods.
  • Leverage adult learning principles, considering the learner experience as well as accessibility, and adhering to ERAU standards of design.

Hours:

The workload will be 20-30 hours per week. All hours worked must be completed during normal business hours.

Compensation:

Hourly rate: $15.00-$16.00. Compensation for this internship does not include any fringe benefits such as housing, meal plan or health and wellness benefits.

Qualifications

Required qualifications:

  • Applicants must be currently pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in Instructional Design, Adult Learning, Instructional Technology, Education, or other related field of study.
  • Remote collaborative style; ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of adult learning theories and applications.
  • Excellent communication and critical thinking skills.
  • Project management skills.
  • Willingness to learn.

Applications are currently being accepted for internship opportunities beginning in January 2025 and June 2025. The internship length will be twenty (20) weeks during the spring term or twelve (12) weeks during the summer term.

Candidates will be informed about the decision from the committee at least two weeks prior to internship start date.
