Job Summary
Under the general direction of the DevOps Manager and in coordination with the IT Shared Services System Administration Group, the System Administrator 2 supports all levels of Linux and Windows system administration and manages network services. This position is responsible for ensuring departmental compliance with campus communications, information security, and Internet use policies. The System Administrator 2 also plays a crucial role in implementing system enhancements, managing systems and services, and administering security policies. The incumbent will work on a team that evaluates, installs, modifies, and supports operating systems, databases, utilities, and web-related tools, including implementing system rollouts. - Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training

- Demonstrated experience administering Linux and/or Windows server and client operating systems including ability to evaluate, install, modify and support operating systems, databases, utilities and web-related tools, including implementing system rollouts.
- Experience in a multi-level IT support environment, handling escalations and service referrals.
- Experience in writing clear and concise technical documentation.
- Knowledge of system security best practices and experience implementing security controls.
- Strong troubleshooting skills for hardware and software issues, with the ability to resolve them promptly.
- Excellent communication skills to elicit and convey technical and non-technical information effectively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with one or more systems scripting/automation languages (e.g., GNU BASH, Windows PowerShell, Python, and Perl).
- Experience managing network configurations including VLANs, DHCP, DNS, and firewalls.
- Experience with automated OS, application deployment and patching technologies.
- Knowledge of UC BFB-IS-3 policy and the evaluation and implementation of data appropriate security controls. Familiarity with ITIL or other IT Service Management (ITSM) methodology

Department Overview The College's computing infrastructure is currently diverse and decentralized across eight academic departments and ten graduate programs. Windows and Linux instructional labs hosting complex application setups for each departmental discipline are supported by the college development operations team. Each department has extensive and varied technical computing research requirements, encompassing HPC clusters, robotics, instrumentation, graphics, code development, security, and other specialty systems. Additionally, the College maintains a diverse set of infrastructure to support general needs such as cloud services, web services, firewall, virtual machines, SAN and backup services, databases, and user account management. Work Environment
- Ability to provide service to the college's 8 units located across campus and off-site. Provide own transportation across campus and to off-site locations. Work outside the standard work schedule, including evenings and weekends, to meet project priorities, system deployment, and maintenance activities.
