Job Summary (includes but is not limited to the following, other duties may be assigned) Supports Calpine's CCS projects across multiple state and federal legislative and regulatory venues. Important elements of the role include: will assist in analyzing emerging or existing regulatory and legislative issues impacting Calpine and/or the energy industry; will assist in gathering intelligence and data; assisting with the preparation of position papers, presentation material; will assist in developing Calpine's advocacy strategy with the rest of the Government and Regulatory Affairs team; and will assist in coordinating advocacy with peers and trade groups. The Intern will provide support within the government relations function and related areas such as compliance and regulatory affairs. Typically involved in supporting general analysis of government relations activities or may be used in whole or in part in such areas as compliance analysis and administration. Will assist with designing and planning for government outreach by providing analysis of merging or existing legislative public policy issues impacting Calpine and/or the energy industry. Will assist in gathering intelligence and assisting in preparation of analysis, position papers, presentations, proposal support, etc. Will work with management to develop Calpine/energy industry legislative and policy initiatives. Job Requirements Candidate should be working on a Bachelor's or Master's degree at an accredited college or university in a quantitative or analytical field, such as Environmental Science/Policy/Management, legal or similar Must have at least one year of undergraduate coursework completed by the start of the internship. Graduate students also encouraged to apply. Minimum GPA 3.2 Legally eligible to work in the United States now and in the future for any company Demonstrated foundational understanding of concepts related to sustainability, operational/embodied carbon, climate change, resilience, lifecycle costs, distributed energy resources, social equity, and environmental justice issues (completion of coursework in these areas is preferred) Proficient in use of software like MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, interactive Adobe PDFs Exceptional research, writing, communication, and presentation skills to communicate work in a clear, concise, and logical format Strong analytical, quantitative, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities Able to work autonomously and under the pressure of multiple deadlines Knowledge of the energy industry, specifically the independent power or utility sector, is a plus. Strong verbal and written communication skills are a must.
