About Zoetis Reference Laboratory

Zoetis Reference Laboratory is a new, innovative, and well-funded, full-service veterinary clinical diagnostics laboratory. We are focused on revolutionizing the reference laboratory space for companion, livestock, and exotic animals. We are a team of friendly, motivated, and highly collaborative business and veterinary professionals looking for a top tier laboratory bench-top, histologist to join our team.

As a Histology Technician III your primary responsibility will be processing clinical veterinary histopathology specimens. You will have the opportunity to learn about veterinary diagnostics and help companion, livestock, and exotic animals. This position is based in Louisville, Kentucky.

Responsibilities and Duties

Including but not limited to

  • Prepares sections of animal tissue for microscopic examination and patient diagnosis, using techniques to embed (orient specimen in paraffin block), section (cut thin sections of tissue), stain (enhance contrast of tissue and highlight specific features of interest with routine hematoxylin and eosin stains), according to the Standard of Operating Procedure.
  • Performs recuts and additional stains including special stains, as requested by a Pathologist.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment and tracks all routine maintenance and quality controls performed.
  • Operates, cleans, and sterilizes laboratory equipment, glassware, instruments, and workstation.
  • Disposes of hazardous chemical waste per regulatory guidelines.
  • Complies with all State, Federal, professional regulations as well as company and departmental rules, polices, and procedural manuals.
  • Adherence to State Regulations, HIPAA, Safety and OSHA Regulations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions.
  • Consulting with colleagues, supervisor, and medical team.
  • Collaborating with colleagues to accomplish fast, accurate, and comprehensive results.
  • Flexibility to work overtime depending on business needs.
  • Ability to perform the job responsibilities and duties of Laboratory Assistant, Technician I, and Technician II as required.

Knowledge, Qualifications

  • BA or BS in Biology, Animal Science, or related Natural Science Field OR Certified Veterinary Technician/Associates Degree/ HT or HTL.
  • 2-3 years of experience in a Histology Laboratory is required.
  • Proficiency in Histology is required.
  • Strong level of proficiency with special stains, implementing best practices for staining protocols and quality control.
  • Team Oriented.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Robust organization and time management skills.
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills required.

Physical and Time requirements:
* Able to sit and stand for long periods.
* Able to lift to 50lbs
* Flexible hours and overtime may be required.

Schedule: Monday-Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm
