Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Be the difference. Job Summary This position performs duties necessary to treat patients in accordance with the physician's order and departmental policy. Works independently in all acute and critical care settings. Consults with physicians and other personnel and makes recommendations on treatment as appropriate. Must possess skills necessary to treat patients of all ages to include infants, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients as appropriate for the role.
Accountabilities
- Acts independently to perform respiratory therapy general and critical care procedures in accordance to physician orders, policies, procedures and protocols. - 15%
- Able to obtain blood gases from all sites, analyze and report results appropriately, and provide QC maintenance of blood gas devices when necessary. - 10%
- Able to initiate and manage all types of airways and the associated equipment, including invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation. - 15%
- Accurately and completely documents and charges for all procedures and tasks. Provides patient and family education, documents in the care plan as appropriate. - 10%
- Effectively communicates with all members of the health care team, provides complete and accurate shift report. Makes appropriate recommendations for care. - 10%
- Adheres to infection control and quality initiatives. Performs appropriate cleaning/disinfection and sterilization of equipment between patients as indicated by equipment type and isolation status. - 10%
Must participate in at least one of the following:- 5% a. serve as ambassador for system wide initiatives (ie united way, employee survey, etc) b. serve as a team captain (ie employee survey, heart walk, march of dimes, etc) c. help coordinate and particpate in Respiratory Care Week activitiesMust participate in at least one of the following: - 15% a. cross training for other departments and/or age populations b. assist in training opportunities for student, new employees, RNs, others- Acts as a good steward of resources, including supplies, time/productivity - 5%
Supervisory/Management Responsibility This is a non-management job that will report to a supervisor, manager, director, or executive. Minimum Requirements
- Education - Associate's Degree from a Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC) approved Respiratory Care program
- Experience - 2 years experience working as a Registered Respiratory Therapist
Required Certifications/Registrations/Licenses
Must be licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in south Carolina. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) BLS required. NBRC credentials must be maintained. Other certifications dependent on work unit : NRP, PALS, ACLS, NPS
