Job Summary:



Nature of work:

Under general direction of the Lead Strategist of Philanthropic Growth, The Annual Giving Production and Data Specialist position is responsible for the project management of direct response fundraising programs, including direct mail, online efforts, acquisition, retention, cultivation, and telemarketing. In addition, the position is responsible for generating reports, providing data points to help establish data-driven fundraising goals and analysis of data to generate segmentation that will support direct marketing initiatives. This position will work closely with various teams to ensure a cohesive benefactor experience. This position will be part of the Philanthropic Growth program to educate, inspire and partner with patients, alumni and community members who give to CU Anschutz.

Supervision Received: Reports to the Lead Strategist Philanthropic Growth

Key Responsibilities:

Project Management: 50%



  • Project management of direct response fundraising programs, including direct mail, online efforts, acquisition, retention, cultivation and telemarketing.

    • Request and manipulate data to provide lists, segments, analysis, and reports to support identified campus objectives and needs
    • Audit giving data and prospect data to ensure accuracy, standardization, and accessibility, including identifying and isolating data anomalies, alerting appropriate staff, and following up to ensure effective resolution.
    • Manage multiple external vendors supporting direct response strategies (direct mail, list services, telemarketing, etc.).
    • Monitor the performance of appeals. Make recommendations and/or modify strategies to improve performance and resource efficiency.




Collaboration: 30%



  • Collaborate regularly with Communications, Hospital Relations, Benefactor Relations, Alumni Relations, Gift Processing, Data Insights, and Prospect Research to ensure a cohesive benefactor experience.

    • Develop, maintain, and regularly distribute a comprehensive calendar of fundraising marketing solicitations.
    • Partner with campus units to educate on best practices for direct marketing fundraising across CU Anschutz.
    • Provide regular reports on the outcomes of fundraising efforts. Communicate lessons learned, best practices, and industry trends to support the achievement of key performance indicators.




Analytics: 20%



  • Determine Key Performance Indicators for audience segments with the Lead Strategist for Philanthropic Growth

    • Collaborate closely with business intelligence, analytics, and research efforts to identify segments that will best achieve campus objectives while operating within resource limits.
    • Support data analysis, partnering with internal data analytics teams and participate in benchmarking with other academic medical centers.
    • Pursue data-specific marketing efforts that benefit CU Anschutz, such as integrating new technologies, improving data quality, supporting appeal code policies and procedures, enhancing recurring gift functionality, etc.





Work Location:



Hybrid - this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 1-3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:



Minimum Qualifications:



  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • 2-4 years professional experience in fundraising, development or marketing, that includes experience working in a constituent database and using data to create segmentation


A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:



  • Professional experience fundraising in higher education, nonprofit, or medical setting.
  • Experience structuring data for reporting and analyzing for meaning
  • Experience leading a program or project from concept and strategy to execution and analysis.
  • Experience securing buy-in and support from stakeholders.
  • Experience in telephone outreach development efforts, including the use of phone program software


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:



  • Knowledge of Direct Marketing/Annual Giving and fundraising efforts within complex organizations.
  • Use of Customer Relationship Management tools, such as Salesforce, Blackbaud CRM, or Advance.
  • Knowledge of and ability to understand data, data trends, and data analysis to create strategies and make decisions.
  • Ability to work independently and under pressure, to manage concurrent tasks and responsibilities, and to deal with changing priorities, while maintaining personal effectiveness.
  • Ability to participate effectively within a multi-faceted, geographically-disperse team.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, other University Personnel, and the public.
  • Ability to complete thorough and accurate research.
  • Ability to appropriately apply relevant information to assigned projects.
  • Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office programs (i.e., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.

Anticipated Pay Range:



The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as $85,770 - $90,000.

The above salary range (or hiring range) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
