Job Summary

Provides day-to day consultation, training, instruction, troubleshooting and problem-solving services to computer users for hardware, software, network, related computer systems and peripheral devices. Ensures the effective operation of all systems; installs and configures systems; recommends hardware and software acquisitions and upgrades. Assists the Assistant Director in providing support for departmental users of Active Directory, SharePoint and other resources.

  • Performs initial configuration and maintenance of system hardware and software to meet the college's standards. Diagnoses system hardware and software operation problems and applies corrective procedures to restore them to operational standards.
  • Provides technical support services to classrooms, computer labs and users of multiple computer systems throughout the department(s).
  • Researches computer hardware options and software applications and informs the director for decision on departmental adoption.
  • Distributes new computers within the department(s) and provides initial training in their operation to users.
  • Creates, tests, and deploys computer hard drive images with related software.
  • Provides support to the college by identifying, prioritizing, troubleshooting and resolving issues on hardware and software received by telephone, email, or the designated ticketing system.
  • Works with the University's chosen IT ticketing system to create, track, manage, and report on requests and incidents.
  • Collaborates with security staff members on system security updates.
  • Services computers and peripherals used by faculty for online and by hybrid courses. Conducts field visits to faculty offices.
  • Provides support for advising center hardware and software to improve student services.
  • Utilizes the department's inventory database system to accurately track all departmental assets.
  • Works with FIU-based and external vendors to ensure software licenses are up to date for end users
  • Performs essential duties in emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. Is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification from a department administrator.
  • Performs other duties as assigned. Omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning other duties related to the position.
  • Remote work/telecommuting is permitted.
Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or related field. Two (2) years of experience of software design, development, and implementation.
Departmental Requirements

  • Experience working with networking equipment
  • Experience working with Windows and MAC operating systems
  • Familiarity with LDAP/Active Directory, system or patch management solutions
  • Familiarity with advanced features in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint
  • Familiarity with the Universitys policy, procedures and regulations
  • Effective customer service skills, writing skills, and troubleshooting skills
