Job Summary
This is a limited term, seasonal position.

Need something fun to do this summer? Come down to the 4-H Center for the best summer camp around!! Swimming, paddle boarding, high ropes, and MORE it is sure to be a blast!! You get paid as well as room and board!
Training/Educational opportunities: 10- day extensive staff training on all programs provided at the center (high ropes, water activities and more); Red Cross Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR.
4-H Summer Camp strives to instill the values of Head, Heart, Hands, and Health through belonging, independence, generosity, and mastery in the lives of all who come to camp.

Spend your summer at the beautiful Alabama 4-H Center, a full-service conference facility nestled within 264 acres of beautiful forestland on Lay Lake in Columbiana. Counselors in conjunction with ACES employees and volunteers lead campers (ages 9-18) through a variety of games, sports, nature classes, water activities and team-building activities in a safe and natural setting.

  • All applicants must be 19 years of age or older before May 1st.
  • Lifeguard Certification is required (lifeguard training offered during counselor training if needed).

  • CPR Certification is required (CPR training offered during counselor training if needed)
  • Ability to learn to safely facilitate High Ropes Elements (Climbing wall, Giant Swing, Clover Hop).
  • Ability to lift up to 50 -80 pounds (for water rescues and belaying on high ropes)
  • Ability to work outside throughout the day to facilitate activities
  • Ability to facilitate small watercraft classes (paddleboard, kayaking)
  • Must have a great attitude and a passion for working with youth!
  • Must have a passion for working with youth!
  • Fun, energic attitude!


You get paid $400/week as well as are provided room and board!

Required pre-training weekend dates are March 7 - 9 and April 11 - 13. Room and board provided during trainings. Extensive training starts May 15, summer camp runs May 28 - July 2. There is the potential to stay on and help work in July depending on staff needs.

Temporary Employment Services ( TES), a unit of the Auburn University Department of Human Resources, is an in-house support center established to meet the temporary employment needs of the university. TES provides qualified and dedicated temporary employees in a wide variety of occupations to meet the staffing needs throughout the campus. Temporary employees are hired for a variety of reasons with the most common being:

  • Assistance in the place of a regular employee who is absent for a specified period of time
  • Additional assistance during periods of abnormal or peak workloads
  • Assistance with special projects
  • Seasonal work
  • Emergencies

Plans, supervises, and monitors activities in accordance with policies, procedures, and guidelines for seasonal recreation/camp programs.
