Position Summary:
The Learning Technologies Support (LTS) team is hiring an Extra Help full-time Information Technology Support Associate to lead a team of 30 undergraduate students who will primarily be responsible for providing in-person support to instructors using the technology available in UIC's 190 centrally managed classrooms. Additionally, this position will also ensure the operational availability of UIC's 12 open/teaching computer labs.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with hiring, mentoring, and disciplining of our 30 Classroom Tech (CT) support student team.
  • Provide daily supervision/scheduling, and complete student payroll-related tasks.
  • Provide ongoing training and development of our CT support student team.
  • Instruct the use of streaming tools (Zoom and Echo 360) used in conjunction with the IT/A/V equipment in our 190 centrally managed classrooms.
  • Develop instruction regarding IT/AV technical support for UIC's 190 centrally managed classrooms and 12 computer labs.
  • Develop and improve the IT/AV classroom troubleshooting documentation that is used by our CT student support team.
  • Escalate technical support incidents to junior and senior level LTS AV support staff when needed.
  • Perform other duties and tasks as assigned.
  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.


  • Qualifications:

    Minimum Qualifications

    1. High school diploma or equivalent.
    2. Any one or any combination totaling one (1) year (12 months) from the following categories:
      1. College coursework which includes Information Technology (IT), IT Management, Programming, IT systems, or a closely related discipline, as measured by the following conversion table or its proportional equivalent:
        • 30 semester hours equals one (1) year (12 months)
        • Associate's Degree (60 semester hours) equals eighteen months (18 months)
        • 90 semester hours equals two (2) years (24 months)
        • Bachelor's Degree (120 semester hours) equals three (3) years (36 months)
      2. Work experience in IT-related functions such as hardware/software support, programming, network design, network engineering, IT systems integration, or closely related field.
    3. Based on position requirements, additional education, training, and/or work experience in the area of specialization inherent to the position may be required.
    Preferred Qualifications
    1. One year of IT/AV experience within Academic Technologies, including experience in supporting, developing, and delivering course-related instruction using technology solutions to support university faculty in teaching courses
    2. Experience with a ticketing-based support system such as TDX.
    3. Experience with enterprise communications programs such as Microsoft Teams and enterprise file sharing/collaboration programs such as Google Drive and Box.
    4. Familiarity with UIC campus.
    5. Knowledge of UIC's classroom technologies.
    6. Knowledge of LTS supported learning based applications and systems, including Blackboard and Echo360.
    7. Demonstrated supervisory experience in a technical-based environment.
    8. Demonstrated experience writing technical documentation for knowledge transfer.
    9. Excellent communication and organizational skills.
