Job Summary

Under general supervision, provide support for clinicians and students in the Veterinary Teaching Hospital by serving as the first point of contact; provide medical records support; schedule appointments and process medical records data for easy retrieval; collect payments for services; enter patient charges and collect payment from clients. This position floats between the SAC and LAC as needed and may work evenings, weekends, or holidays.

RECRUITMENT PERIOD ONE MONTH: Applicants will be screened after two weeks; and then on a weekly basis. The position can be filled prior to the removal date.

Minimum Qualifications

For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license, certification and/or educational degree if required of the position.

  • Reception experience to answer phones, take accurate messages and assist clients.
  • Experience with billing, cashiering and client services.
  • Interpersonal communication and customer services skills to clearly and effectively interact with individuals of varying ages, cultural backgrounds, perspectives to secure and/or provide Information to clarify situations, resolve problems, make referrals, and interact with the general public in a helpful and positive manner.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience using various programs and software for word processing, spreadsheets, scheduling, entry and retrieval of medical records, and database management programs.
  • Experience working in a veterinary or medical environment including knowledge of procedures affecting services, clients, and confidentiality of records/client information.
  • Knowledge of animal anatomy, and medical terminology to provide general information and make the appropriate referrals. This includes knowledge base for small animals and large animals.
  • Knowledge of VMTH admissions, records, cashiering policies and procedures affecting services, clients, and confidentiality of records and information.
  • Ability to learn the fundamental VMTH services and standards for admissions, records, billing, disease processes, scientific terms and processes.

Department Overview

The Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital (VMTH) is a unit that provides medical care for patients on a 24-hour basis. We support the teaching programs throughout the School of Veterinary Medicine which has a primary objective to train professional (veterinary) students, graduate clinical students (interns and residents), and graduate academic students; and to provide veterinary services to the public. Our Client Services team is a critical piece to the hospital to provide an excellent level of customer service for our clients and referring veterinarians. We offer compassionate and empathic support to our clients during their time of need. We have the first interaction with our clients to provide needed information to help their patient needs and to help facilitate the scheduling needs for each client. This position is part of a dedicated team who takes pride in building our client relationship bonds in order for our medical team to provide the best medical care for each patient.
