Collections Associate (part-time)

General Summary of Position:

The Part-time Collections Associate will support the physical and electronic library collections at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. The Part-time Collections Associate reports directly to the Assistant Director for Library Collections. The person in this position will be expected to work 18 hours per week. The duties involved with this position are project-based across a range of collections initiatives, so tasks will change as projects are completed. There may be an opportunity for some of these hours to be worked remotely.

Examples of duties include:



  • Reformat legacy electronic texts into new systems





  • Evaluate gifts of books following established standards





  • Participate in collections projects such as inventory and book shifting





  • Unpack and check in new book shipments





  • Communicate effectively with various library employees, often over email and Microsoft Teams





  • Promote the University's commitment to customer service by freely sharing appropriate information and providing assistance when needed; ensuring optimum service to all internal and external partners in response to all requests for service and information; maintaining an environment that is welcoming to persons of all backgrounds, nationalities, and roles.

Minimum Qualifications:



  • Evidence of at least one year of college coursework





  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, such as Word, Excel, and Teams





  • Willingness and enthusiasm for learning new software and technical skills





  • Demonstrated proficiency with advanced search and faceting features in library catalogs,
    e-commerce systems, and internet search engines





  • Demonstrated ability to pay attention to detail



Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in a library environment





  • Associate's degree or greater





  • Ability to lift 40 pounds



Hourly Pay: $21/hour
