Position Description

Directs, plans, coordinates and supervises the operations and activities of a specialized unit or small department; develops and implements policies and procedures, administers the budget, organizes tasks and sets priorities. Serves as liaison with university personnel and community at large. Works under general supervision with broad latitude for initiative and independent judgement.

Major/Essential Functions

The Director of Research Development (D-RD) will:

* 5% - Develop strategic plans for research growth: Planning of new and expanded research initiatives.
* 30% - Catalyze and facilitate cross-disciplinary research initiatives across the university, the system, and with external partners.
* 15% - Support and enable large, complex research initiatives, including large and complex grant applications in response to funding opportunities.
* 5% - Collaborate closely with other OR&I units and campus leadership to provide concierge research services for TTU researchers.
* 25% - Serve as a mentor and resource to develop, guide, and further the work of supervisees to achieve goals that contribute to the growth of the office in supporting large grant proposal submissions through routine evaluation of responsibilities and work assignments.
* 20% - Advise, and oversee:

o Processes and resources for improving funding competitiveness and management of research agendas and programs
o Development and implementation of policies and processes that interface with other campus units and external agencies and partners
o General and targeted communication of funding opportunities for researchers across the university
o Promotion of research activities, events, and impact
o Identification of potential opportunities for local, state, federal, and private grant funding
o Assessment of grant opportunities for fit and prioritization for application

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in related area required plus five years progressively responsible management experience. Additional education may substitute for experience on a year for year basis.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Business Administration, Communications, Educational Research, Engineering, Marketing, Psychology, Science, Public Affairs, or a closely related field. Extensive experience in managing projects or programs, grant proposal writing, and/or research development. Additional job-related experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
