Title: Pre-HSE Instructor Reports To: Education Coordinator Pay: $51,292.80-$61,551.36; Full-time, exempt position Office Hours: Monday - Friday; 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Evening and weekend hours as needed.

Description YMCA International Services is a unique branch of the Y of Greater Houston that seeks to meet the needs of Houston's significant refugee and immigrant communities. We provide comprehensive programs that focus on building human assets and fostering self-sufficiency. The instructor will provide high school equivalency exam preparation (GED and Hi-SET) for the purpose of fostering vocational and educational attainment within the immigrant community. Duties /Responsibilities Responsibilities include:
- Teaching 16-20 hours of Pre-HSE per week to refugees, newcomers, and other vulnerable populations.
- Impacting the lives of refugees by teaching innovative classes at a variety of locations.
- Researching, customizing, and delivering engaging and culturally appropriate Pre-HSE curricula and assessments.
- Identifying and recruiting clients and managing referrals through community outreach.
- Provide courses during the time of day when clients are available. This may include a Saturday class or evening hours.
- Meeting requirements of grant including determining client eligibility and maintaining digital databases.
- Completing required certifications and being familiar with updated resources.
- Reporting suspicious and inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
- Following mandated abuse and incident reporting requirements.
- Meeting timelines and deadlines related to supporting systems and employee compliance. Examples include but are not limited to Kronos Workforce Ready for review and approval of time sheets.
- Welcoming new refugees with occasional airport pick-ups and occasional food distribution.
- Completing other duties as assigned.
Outcomes Depending on Performance Measures, the instructor is responsible for the following:
- Conducting 16-20 hours of Pre-HSE classes per week.
- Enrolling 80 Pre-HSE students annually.
- Creating and maintaining instructional materials and modules.
- Documenting and reporting program participation including case notes and client follow up.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Education, English, or related field
- Eligible candidates will have relevant experience in education with proven research & writing skills
- Familiarity with online databases and Office Suite
- Native or near-native English speaker with proficiency in an additional language (Preferred)
- Texas Driver's License; clean driving record; own vehicle; and applicable auto insurance
