Summary:

Under the general direction of the Security Manager the Security Officer protects life and property of all persons on hospital premises and patrols hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire theft and vandalism. Secures unlocks and protects hospital buildings. Responds to security needs of the hospital personnel patients and visitors. Participates in performance improvement activities.

Responsibilities:

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:



  • Protects life and property of all persons on hospital premises. Deescalates all potentially tense situations. Immediately contacts local police prior to any physical altercations.
  • Patrols hospital buildings and grounds to prevent fire theft and vandalism. Diligently reports any suspicious activity and investigates accidents incidents and criminal acts.
  • Secures locks and protects hospital buildings and grounds.
  • Responds quickly and effectively to emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Assists hospital staff in de-escalation of tense situations and responds immediately to support the safety of staff.
  • Ensures only authorized persons are admitted onto hospital property. Assists with inquiries made by patients visitors or other employees.
  • Maintains current information in daily activity reports/logs incident reports lost and found logs etc.
  • Serves as a member of the emergency response team and responds to codes appropriately.
  • Reports all safety and fire hazards investigates incidents of unusual circumstances and reports all incidents to supervisor.
  • Supports all fire/life safety/emergency management drills and education initiatives.
  • Documents incident reports in an accurate and timely manner. Follows appropriate investigative procedures.
  • Must be able to respond quickly to all areas of the hospital.
  • Successfully completes hospital and department specific orientation and ongoing mandatory education requirements in a timely manner.
  • Manage access control at various entrances by ensuring all staff patients visitors and vendors are authorized to gain entry for business/service purposes.
  • Assists with the operation of security systems: CCTV access control and incident reporting.
  • Assists in maintaining regulatory requirements including state and federal regulations.
  • Maintains patient confidentiality at all times.
  • Maintains a good rapport and a cooperative working relationship with physicians staff and vendors.
  • Should an emergency situation arise (weather-related or other emergency related events) senior management may require security staff to remain at the hospital in order to ensure the well-being of our patients is uncompromised and hospital operations are uninterrupted. While these situations are unusual and at times unpredictable our security staff should be prepared to remain on site.
  • Remains keenly alert at all times alerting all employees patients and others to possible threats or situations requiring immediate attention.

Other information:

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Two to five (2-5) years of experience in the field of law enforcement security operations or a related field is required. Experience in a health care setting is preferred. Must be able to successfully clear a background check including a criminal search.

Use or possession of a firearm and/or other weapons is prohibited



  • Excellent knowledge of public safety and security procedures/protocols preferred.?
  • Ability to obtain state-required security officer credentials as needed.
  • Ability to perform duties independently.
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English both verbally and in writing.
  • Basic computer knowledge and skills required. Experience with Microsoft Office preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to function calmly and competently in high stress situations.
  • Ability to display mental and emotional stamina in situations involving death multiple patients family members etc.
  • Ability to be honest alert and well-disciplined.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 100 pounds.
  • Proven ability to maintain confidentiality at all times.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Participate in performance improvement activities.


EDUCATION:



  • High school diploma or equivalent (GED).
  • A current Basic Life Support (CPR) American Red Cross or American Heart Association Provider certification or a CPI certification is preferred.
