Position description

The Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of California, Merced invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. A Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering or a related area at the time of appointment is required.

Exceptional candidates in all areas of electrical engineering will be considered. We seek candidates who will contribute to building a nationally and internationally recognized Electrical Engineering (EE) research program. In particular, we seek candidates with expertise in all EE topical areas including, but not limited to:

* electronics design, integrated circuits design, RF circuit design and VLSI systems

* robotic and control systems including electrical machines, electromagnetic designs, and medical robotic systems

* sustainable energy and decarbonization including renewable electricity, energy storage, power electronics, and electrification of transportation, buildings, and industrial processes

* low-cost integration of new clean-energy technologies including grid modernization and electric vehicle technology

* signal processing, artificial intelligence, machine learning for applications such as energy, sustainability, agriculture, industry, transportation, or medicine

* emerging technologies for sustainable intensification of food and renewable energy production including agrivoltaics

The successful candidate will lead an internationally renowned independent research program in an emerging area, advise undergraduate and graduate students, teach a variety of electrical engineering courses (typically one course per semester, sometimes teaching two courses in a semester), and actively participate in the department activities including curriculum development and oversight. Prior experience in an Electrical Engineering Department is desirable, but not required.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications

Applicants will be considered if they meet the basic qualifications of having a Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering or a related area at the time of appointment is required. Exceptional candidates in all areas of electrical engineering

will be considered.

All but dissertation (ABD) candidates will be considered but will require the Ph.D. to be completed by the start date.
