Wage Range: $173,181 - $277,098 per year Posted wage ranges represent the entire range from minimum to maximum. For jobs with more than one level, the posted range reflects the minimum of the lowest level and the maximum of the highest level. Some positions also offer additional premiums based on shift, certifications or degrees. Job offers are determined based on a candidate's years of relevant experience, level of education and internal equity.
Job Summary:
The Executive Director of Cancer Care for the Halvorson Cancer Center (HCC) serves as the service line leader for cancer services offered by EvergreenHealth (EH) and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center (FHCC) and as the operational leader for cancer services offered by EvergreenHealth departments. This position bridges both organizations to help achieve clinical, service, and operational excellence at HCC, and reports to both FHCC and EH leadership.
Primary Duties:
- Provides Cancer Service Line management and administration of all of HCC in order to ensure accomplishment of organizational mission and objectives as determined by HCC Joint Executive Council.
- Leads the development and monitoring of HCC's strategic and operational goals and objectives.
- In conjunction with EH and FHCC planning teams conducts strategic planning projects bi-annually with site specific teams, identifies clinical and resource needs to expand program. Works with HCC Clinical leadership, and Medical Staff to identify surgical and medical needs.
- Develops and maintains standard monthly and quarterly reports related to patient and service volumes, migration, payer, mix, financial performance, quality and service performance.
- Serves as resource person to EH, FHCC, Medical Staff, and HCC personnel regarding Cancer Center issues.
- Maintains communication with HCC Steering Committee, Clinical Leaders, Departmental Leaders within HCC as well as coordination with EH and FHCC departments.
- Participates in twice-annual payer contracting review, representing HCC, its patients and providers to minimize out-migration.
- Leads accreditation efforts for the cancer program to maintain current accreditation or seek new accreditation, as necessary.
- Serves as a member of EH and FHCC in leadership/management groups, represents the Cancer Center and ensures compliance with standards and policies.
- Maintains accountability for all marketing, outreach, clinical, and business operations for EvergreenHealth cancer services offered at HCC.
- Responsible for management of EH/HCC including EH: Radiation Oncology, Cancer Support Services - direct accountability; FHCC: Medical Oncology Clinic, Infusion, Genetics, Clinical Research collaboration only.
- In conjunction with FHCC operational leadership, benchmarks performance against appropriate regional and national measures.
- In conjunction with FHCC operational leadership, leads analysis to understand barriers to patient access and implement actions to expand access.
- In conjunction with FHCC operational leadership, coordinates resources and develops processes to support the implementation of oncology research studies.
- Plans, organizes, and directs all departmental activities in accordance with established standards of patient care at EH.
- Maintains working relationships with EH and FHCC with Department Leaders, Faculty and Medical Staff of the parent organization.
- Develops and recommends changes to effect continual improvement of quality, efficiency, economy and effectiveness of EH/HCC operations and services.
- Plans, resources, develops and monitors Site Specific Teams in the development of evidence based clinical pathway to support quality outcomes and road maps for Oncology Nurse Navigators.
- Maintains responsibility for staffing for all EH assigned departments.
- Responsible for developing and monitoring operational and capital budgets according to EH practices, policies and processes as follows: Developing and managing operational budgets for assigned departments at EH/HCC; Developing and managing capital budgets for assigned departments at EH/HCC; Coordinates any necessary space planning activities for assigned departments at EH/HCC.
- Responsible for overall compliance with laws/standards/regulations affecting EH/HCC and works with FHCC operations leadership to comply with joint requirements: Department of Health (King County and WA State); Joint Commission; American College of Surgeons - Commission on Cancer; American College of Radiology; College of American Pathologists; National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers; NCCN - National Comprehensive Cancer Network.
- Ensures HCC adherence with quality standards and initiatives as required by parent institutions, government agencies, and accrediting bodies.
- Develops and leads quality initiatives.
- Develops and implements approved departmental policies, procedures, systems, and standards. Ensures compliance for EH.
- Identifies risk management improvement opportunities, aligned with EH and FHCC policies and plans appropriate action.
- In conjunction with EH and FHCC marketing departments, develops messaging, materials, and media content to promote HCC in the community.
- Maintains working relationships with local cancer associations and community resources.
- Represents the Halvorson Cancer Center in educational and outreach activities in the community.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
License, Certification, Education or Experience:
REQUIRED for the position:
- Bachelors degree in healthcare related field or business administration
- 10 years of overall experience in the Oncology field
- 5 years of experience in project management and administrative oversight of clinical areas
- 3 years of experience in service line development and operation of clinical service areas including inpatient, outpatient, physician office and/or homecare/hospice
- 3 years of experience with clinical leadership of a cancer center, physicians in private practice and/or with academia
Desired for the position:
- Masters degree in healthcare related field or business administration
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of Lean methodology
