Essential Job Functions
The Department of Nursing has undergraduate and graduate programs in Nursing. The undergraduate program includes a generic pre-licensure baccalaureate program ( BSN) and an RN (registered nurse) to BSN program. The graduate program is a master's program in Nursing ( MSN) with a concentration in Nursing Education. The Department is developing partnerships with both rural and urban communities in the region to provide nurses for the regional and national nursing workforce and to increase access to nursing education for nurses desiring to teach nursing or nursing staff (through the MSN degree) or complete the BSN degree (RN to BSN program) through state of the art online programming.

The Director of Healthcare Simulation and Innovative Learning provides technical and leadership support of the simulation labs. There is an array of increasingly sophisticated technologies present in the labs. Support for the labs requires direct, hands-on technical diagnostic and troubleshooting expertise, as well as leadership in strategic technical planning, logistics, and support for faculty and students who utilize the labs. This position works from a base of broad experience and technical understanding to help provide consistent operation and strategic growth of the college's clinical labs training environment.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position

  • Demonstrated thorough knowledge of information technology support parameters;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of networking and Windows environment concepts;
  • Demonstrated knowledge of healthcare simulation methodologies and support parameters;
  • Demonstrated thorough knowledge of audiovisual technology support and design parameters;
  • Excellent videography and photography skills along with editing experience;
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills,
  • The ability to work both independently and collaboratively;
  • The ability to quickly learn new technologies.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree or higher in education, instructional technology, nursing or related field preferred
  • Current clinical knowledge and two years of experience working in a healthcare field
  • Two years' experience in healthcare simulation-based education and training, or an equivalent combination of training and experience
  • Credentialed as CSHE (certified simulation health educator) or CHSOS (certified health simulation ops specialist)
  • Knowledge of best practices and innovation in simulation education

Required Functional Competencies to Successfully Perform Job Duties.
Project Management:

  • A strong knowledge of project management is essential for successful technical support of the three clinical training/simulation labs in the Department of Nursing.
  • Installations, upgrades, modifications, and repairs of the lab's technical infrastructure are generally carried out as projects.
  • Successful project management for the labs requires a thorough knowledge of the equipment and its interconnectivity, as well as an understanding of university scheduling policies, third-party vendor support parameters, and facilities contacts and operations.
  • Duties include, devising work plans, scheduling, time management, and meeting established deadlines.
  • The Director of Healthcare Simulation & Innovative Learning is expected to work primarily with the Department of Nursing and collaboratively with departments that have experience with healthcare simulation and with departments new to this experiential learning style.
  • Projects will support academic growth through cutting-edge educational technology and partnering Beaver College of Health Sciences Departments and designated outside stakeholders.
  • Leads projects that require directing the work of others with some latitude on actions or decisions.
  • Manages timelines, resources and personnel (internal staff and contractors), and leads implementation efforts to completion.


Technical Knowledge:

  • This position also serves as a knowledge base for the technology associated with simulation lab training.
  • The Director must have a broad understanding of the simulation lab technical systems, including computer hardware and software, LAN equipment and switching/signaling, networking, server-client relationships, A/V equipment.
  • Experience with simulation technology is vital to this position.
  • Support experience with high-fidelity manikins and other simulation-related technology is especially important for this position.

Technical Solution Development:

  • Simulation Lab support often requires the coordination of diverse resources (networking, facilities, vendors, etc).
  • This position coordinates support efforts and provides a support plan roadmap for the simulation lab.
  • This position is responsible for developing an overall support plan framework for regularly occurring maintenance.
  • This position must also be able to organize and develop ad hoc support plans and direct efforts to quickly resolve unforeseen, immediate issues.
  • The simulation lab is in continual operation and equipment uptime is critical.
  • Labs scheduling is challenging and equipment reliability is critical to student success.
  • This position is responsible for developing support solutions to ensure that the lab's training environment is consistently available for students and instructors.
  • This position is expected to think strategically and creatively and to develop technical support protocols that provide optimal lab functionality and availability.

Pay will be commensurate with applicant competencies, budget, equity and market considerations.
