Essential Functions



  • Pharmacy Technician 3 is accountable for assisting pharmacists in the retrieval, processing, preparation and distribution of medications and sterile products for patient administration. These activities include but are not limited to: unit dose medications and IV admixtures, parenteral nutrition, floor stock pharmaceuticals, controlled substances, and other defined systems.
  • Responsible for training and educating the Technician staff on the daily duties of the Pharmacy. These responsibilities include: training and/or orientating new employees and assisting in the coordination of the daily training needs of the Department.
  • Accurate preparation of patient medications including sterile products, chemotherapy, unit dose,
  • cartfills, TPN, narcotics, including education/training and Omnicell stocking.
  • Accurate and timely delivery of patient specific medications.
  • Timely delivery and retrieval of patient medications.
  • Inventories, replenishes, and maintains drug stock which includes automated dispensing cabinets.
  • Assist the Pharmacist with medication/patient care related issues.
  • Assist the Pharmacy managers and Technical Coordinators with employee issues which require additional education/training.
  • Serve as a mentor and develop role models for technical staff.
  • Orient and trains new staff.
  • Educate staff on process improvement and safety initiatives.

  • Must abide by all requirements to safely and securely maintain Protected Health Information (PHI) for our patients. Annual training, the UH Code of Conduct and UH policies and procedures are in place to address appropriate use of PHI in the workplace.
