Safety Critical Embedded Software Engineer, Senior

Key Role:

Serve as a software engineer responsible for providing safety-critical software solutions and engineering services in support of embedded software products for military applications. Perform software engineering tasks, including requirements creation, software design, architecture development, writing code and verification of safety-critical software. Diagnose and fix bugs, test, integration, and product maintenance in support of assigned technology. Provide support in the preparation of program or project plans, documentation, engineering data, project schedules, and milestones necessary for the overall planning and execution of the assigned program. Concentrates on designing, developing, and implementing embedded safety-critical software that supports hardware functionality on a wide range of devices. Responsible for designing, developing, and testing embedded software with real-time operating systems and bare metal environments. Perform implementation, problem solving, maintenance and support to modernize weapon systems in an agile development environment. Working in a team environment contributing to software solutions to a variety of problems of moderate scope and complexity.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience with embedded software using languages like C, C++

  • 3+ years of experience with safety-critical software development following standards, such as MIL-STD-882E, JSSSEH, RTCA DO-178C or ISO 26262

  • Experience with Real-Time Operating Systems such as VxWorks or Integrity or bare metal implementations

  • Experience with root cause analysis, corrective actions, and continuous improvement activities

  • Knowledge of full software life cycle activities

  • Ability to obtain a Secret clearance

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Electrical Engineering

Additional Qualifications:

  • Experience with performing full software life cycle activities across multiple projects

  • Experience with quality audits, and design reviews, such as Preliminary Design Reviews, Critical Design Reviews, and Test Readiness Reviews

  • Experience with Agile Teams, configuration management tools, including PTC Windchill and Git, and requirements management tools, such as DOORS and Jama

  • Experience with implementing DevSecOps or MBSE methodologies

  • Experience with leading teams on safety-critical projects

  • Experience working with the Department of Defense

  • Experience writing or updating processes, procedures, checklists, and templates

  • Knowledge of scripting languages, such as Perl or Python

  • Knowledge of RTCA DO-178C supplements: DO-330, DO-331, DO-332, and DO-333

  • Knowledge of AS9100D, AS9115A, ARP4754 and ARP4761

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $67,700.00 to $154,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees.
