Job Summary

UT Southwestern is seeking a Technical Systems Architect to join the Department of Information Resources. In this role, you will develop solutions for technology systems to include standardizing the design and automation of system deployments, where plausible. You will develop seamless and integrated monitoring and support tools and perform architectural reviews for new system implementations and integrations. Additionally, you will research and evaluate new technologies that transform and improve the technical environment and design and implement high availability solutions based on disaster recovery / business continuity requirements; identify technology infrastructure gaps; develop remediation plans; mitigate technology risk due to complex configurations, design flaws, system and hardware inefficiencies, and reduction of end-of-life infrastructure for technical systems. Work with application analyst sand systems engineers to analyze and resolve complex issues for technical systems. This position requires 10 years' experience in high performance computing (HPC) compute, storage, networking, and virtual machines.


Experience and Education

Minimum Requirements



  • Minimum of ten (10) years in the information technology field with experience to include systems administration, technology consulting, technology system design and support, or other closely related experience required.
  • Associate's degree in related field, or equivalent additional years of related experience required.
  • Experience in healthcare, academic, and/or research institutions highly preferred.
  • Related industry certifications preferred.

  • Ten (10) years' experience in high performance computing (HPC) compute, storage, networking, and virtual machines.


Job Duties

  • Architect and develop solutions for technology systems to include standardizing the design and automation of system deployments, where plausible.
  • Develop seamless and integrated monitoring and support tools.
  • Function as team lead and Tier III engineer for the technology infrastructure and systems teams that support platforms that provide technology services. These systems may include identity and access management, authentication services, distributed computing, operating system support, network attached storage, and other enterprise technologies.
  • Perform architectural reviews for new system implementations and integrations.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies that transform and improve the technical environment.
  • Design and implement high availability solutions based on disaster recovery / business continuity requirements.
  • Participate in security table top exercises as a key contributor.
  • Identifies technology infrastructure gaps and develops remediation plans.
  • Mitigate technology risk due to complex configurations, design flaws, system and hardware inefficiencies, and reduction of end of life infrastructure for technical systems.
  • Works with application analysts and systems engineers, providing Tier III support when needed, to analyze and resolve complex issues for technical systems.
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to manage competing priorities. Work closely with project teams and executive sponsors / project owners. Strong business acumen, good written and oral communication skills.
  • Optimization of system patching efforts.
  • Working knowledge of Visio or similar products.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

* Excellent oral and written communication skills. * Advanced knowledge of enterprise architectures that may include identity and access management, authentication services, distributed computing, operating system support, network attached storage, and other enterprise technologies. * Ability to design and support mid to large enterprise technologies. * Ability to multitask and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels of the institution.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily in office or computer lab/system environment with occasional exposure to noise, moving mechanical and electrical parts.
