Position description

The Media Arts and Technology Program seeks candidates who will teach a specialized course during winter quarter 2025 for PhD and Masters students: MAT 236 (Computational Systems for Visual Art and Design) or MAT 237 (Designing Expressive Technologies).

MAT 236 teaches basic approaches to modify creative programming languages and frameworks or develop new software interfaces for visual expression, while MAT 237 is run as a seminar involving discussion of readings and concepts presented in lecture and exploration of human-computer interaction research methodologies.

Media Arts and Technology (MAT) is a transdisciplinary graduate program at UCSB in both the College of Letters and Science (Division of Humanities and Fine Arts) and the College of Engineering. MAT offers Master's and PhD degrees and has approximately 34 graduate students, 6 core faculty (some with joint appointments in engineering), plus 20 affiliate, teaching, and adjunct faculty across the university. Areas of expertise include human-computer interaction, electronic music and sound design, computational visual and spatial arts, and multimedia signal processing.
