40 Job Description:

The Fleet Service Technician serves as a crucial member of the Tri-State Ambulance operations and support team. This position participates with the Fleet & Facilities Operations Manager in performing preventive maintenance and repair services to a fleet of at least 25 ambulances, 7 wheelchair accessible vans, and 5 support vehicles to ensure safe and reliable units for our EMS professionals.

Major Responsibilities:

1. Diagnoses and performs major repairs on gasoline engines.

2. Diagnoses and repairs, cleans, adjusts, and installs fuel, ignition, electrical, and cooling systems.

3. Diagnoses and repairs power transmission systems.

4. Diagnoses, repairs, and adjusts steering mechanisms and other controls, checking and aligning wheels.

5. Diagnoses, repairs and recharges air conditioning and heating systems.

6. Repairs vehicle body and chassis parts, using hand and power tools, electric arc and oxyacetylene welding equipment.

7. Performs regular servicing and preventive maintenance on ambulances and support vehicles; inspects and adds fluid levels in brake, steering, and other systems; changes gas, oil, and fuel filters; changes engine, transmission, differential, and power take-off lubricants; checks and replaces coolant, hydraulics, and pneumatic hoses; tests, adds fluids, replaces, and/or charges batteries.

8. Performs minor replacement of parts such as hoses, belts, batteries, wiper blades, bulbs, fuses, and lamps.

9. Performs tune-ups for efficient and dependable operation; repairs, replaces, and installs parts and components as necessary including to adjust carburetors and fuel injectors.

10. Road tests vehicles; drives ambulances or other equipment as required; inspects vehicles in the shop and field.

11. Diagnoses engine electronic computer using diagnostic scope.

12. Diagnoses and performs repairs in the field.

13. Maintains, diagnoses, and repairs electrical, electronic and associated components on vehicles.

14. Performs minor paint and body repairs and related components.

15. Installs, diagnoses, and repairs vehicle accessory systems, electronic, telecommunications, radio, and emergency lighting systems on ambulance and support vehicle fleet.

16. Estimates labor, material and equipment required to complete assignments.

17. Reads and interprets manuals and wiring diagrams, schematics, and specifications.

18. Ensures proper safety precautions are observed.

19. Cleans and maintains assigned work area; recycles appropriate shop by-products; disposes of hazardous materials according to established procedures.

20. Adheres to regular and predictable attendance.

21. Performs related duties as assigned.

Education/Learning Experience

REQUIRED

High School Diploma or Equivalency

DESIRED

Certificate or degree in a vehicle technician program.

Work Experience

REQUIRED

1-3 years in a mechanical background

DESIRED

Experience in the maintenance and repair of vehicles

License and Certifications:

REQUIRED

Valid driver's license.

Emergency Vehicle Operations Course within six months of hire.

DESIRED

Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification in two of the following four areas: brakes, electrical, engine repair, and steering and suspension
