Job Description

The Electron Microscopy Core at the University of Missouri is please to announce the opening of a Research Specialist Senior. The purpose of this position is to advance the EMC technology and service in the area of tissue/cell/protein sample prep to meet the rising scientific demand for volume EM and cryo-EM study. The specialist is expected to have graduate level training with previous projects in the area of Physiology, Pharmacology, Cell Biology using fluorescence microscopy and electron microscopy imaging tools in a research lab setup. Understanding the scientific need from users is essential for this position. Frequent literature reading is required.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

* Perform ultramicrotomy for thin sectioning.
* Prepare sample for Immuno-electron microscopy.
* Prepare sample for cryo FIB-SEM and cryo EM.
* Optimize experimental procedures and protocols and participate in method development, including VEM, CLEM, FIB-SEM, SBF-SEM and TEM.
* Perform data collection.
* Record projects and experimental conditions in an electronic laboratory notebook.
* Communicate experimental details with the users.
* Provide user training, user consultation on project submissions, analyze, review, and discuss experimental results.
* Participate in billing and other administrative duties.
* Assist Core Director in grant proposals and manuscript preparations.

This position requires supervising students.

Shift

Monday-Friday 8 am-5 pm

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications

Two years of experience in electron microscopy. Prior experience in tissue preparation, cell culture, immunolabeling is preferred.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary Range: $51,875 - $81,744

Grade: GGS-9E
