Georgia State University is seeking an experienced, highly collaborative Human Resources Business Partner focused on University strategic initiatives. Fully funded by the National Institute for Student Success - NISS -- (niss.gsu.edu), this is a role established to support the Institute, Student Success, and other University strategic initiatives.

This position is sponsor funded** and serves as an HR leader for the NISS and in Human Resources Administration (HRA) providing full-cycle human resources support and serves as the initial point of contact for HR matters supporting new and ongoing positions/personnel actions in critical areas related to Student Success and University Strategic Initiatives.

In addition, this role will provide general guidance to division/college HR Officers across campus on matters related to high priority HR actions. The HR Business Partner develops partnerships across HR Administration to deliver value-added service.

The HR Business Partner has a dual reporting relationship, both to the Executive Director of the NISS and the Director of Compensation in HRA.

A successful incumbent of this position will deliver high-quality experiences, provide great internal and external customer support, and drive HR excellence: #TeamAwesome. This position carries out responsibilities in the following functional areas: talent acquisition/recruitment, employment processing, compensation & classification, performance management, employee relations, leadership and staff guidance & support, HRIS transaction entry.

At the conclusion of the provisional period (first six months), this position is eligible to work remotely for up to two business days per week, with three business days per week required in office (currently required in-office days minimally Mondays and Thursdays). Remote work is not mandatory and is at the discretion of leadership.

HERE IS WHAT YOU WILL DO

Provide day-to-day full life cycle generalist support for high priority HR actions, especially for the National Institute for Student Success and University Strategic Initiatives: Student Success, Research and Innovation, College to Careers, and Identity and Placemaking

* Provide proactive strategic recommendations to University leadership and hiring managers for hiring and ongoing employment support

* Provide consultation and resolution support to departments and managers on Talent Acquisition issues.

* Provide consultation and resolution support to departments on Classification and Compensation issues. Facilitate discussions with HRA Class and Comp unit leadership to evaluate unique concerns to sponsor-funded positions. Consult on reclassification, promotion, and other staff compensation changes

* Work closely with management and employees to improve workplace relationships, build engagement, and increase productivity and retention; Provide regular in-depth assessments of potential personnel challenges and root cause analysis, facilitate conflict resolution meetings, and make recommendations for future process improvements

* Develop structured HR processes and/or procedures, including job aids and related documentation, related to staffing high priority positions. Provide guidance and training on such processes to College/Division HR Officers, Business Managers, staff within the NISS and other divisions. Be accountable for specific HR processes, including HRIS transaction entries, oversight of university- or divisional-administrative or training mandates, policy or procedure development, etc.

* Work collaboratively with HR staff within the Student Success division as well as other HR Business Partners to provide exemplary HR-services to the NISS, HRA, and or other assigned divisions/colleges.

** This is a regular, full-time position which involves on-campus duties, with job continuation dependent upon grant/third-party funding and its continuing availability.

Qualifications :

Minimum Hiring Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Finance, Human Resource Administration, or related field and at least five (5) years of Human resources experience, including HR generalist responsibilities, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.


Preferred Hiring Qualifications:

* Professional level HR experience in a higher-education environment, preferably public-sector, research-focused, etc.

* Master's degree

* Applicable professional certifications, such as SHRM-CP or SHRM-SCP

* Ability to work effectively within a team environment

* Strong attention to detail

* Demonstrated proficiency using Human Resources Information Systems

* Attention to detail, ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with all levels of employees and managers

* Ability to professionally handle confidential material and associated issues

* Strong team player and willingness to assist team members as needed

* Superior verbal and written communication skills

* Excellent interpersonal, counseling, and negotiation skills

* Strong problem-solving skills
