Job Summary: The Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN)-Radiology is IV Therapy and Blood Withdrawal Certified in California and carries out responsibilities under the supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN) or a Medical Doctor (MD) to provide developmentally appropriate and age-specific direct and indirect patient care in a fast-paced inpatient and outpatient radiology department in a large tertiary care facility with level one trauma designation. Reviews daily schedules, gathers supplies and assess the need for equipment and or aides in moving the patient on to the exam table and prepares the room to maximize patient flow. Escorts patients to the exam room assists them to exam table. Verifies correct patient, procedure and ensures preprocedural preparation is complete. Prepares patient for the procedure performing duties within the LVN scope of practice and in accordance with LLUMC and department established policies, procedures, protocols, techniques, and guidelines. Seeks information and clarification of duties and responsibilities when necessary. Informs treatment staff when patient is ready. Assists with monitoring the patient during the procedure as needed. Informs healthcare team of changes in the patient condition. Assists with moving the patient off the table onto gurney and or wheelchair post procedure. Transports inpatients to unit and gives hand off report to bedside staff. Contributes to performance improvement activities, patient safety and quality initiatives to achieve desired outcomes. Takes part in maintaining survey-readiness and compliance with requirements of planning, regulatory, inspecting agencies, and organizational policies. Maintains a safe work environment for self and for others. Minimizes the existence of unsafe conditions in clinical practice and keeps medical device alarms on when connected to a patient. Follows Radiation safety and standard infection control guidelines and policies. Utilizes effective interpersonal skills to maximize excellence in customer service and safe patient care. Performs other duties as needed. Education and Experience: Graduate of a school of Vocational Nursing. Minimum of one year experience as an LVN required. Experience caring for adult medical and surgical patients preferred. Successful completion of a Basic Arrhythmia Recognition and Treatment (BART) course required within six months of hire. Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of the California LVN scope of practice required. Demonstrates competencies in clinical nursing activities as outlined by the LVN board. Demonstrates basic knowledge of radiology exams and procedures. Ability to apply theoretical concepts to clinical practice and continually expands knowledge base and clinical skills with a focus in area of specialty. Basic knowledge of healthcare regulations and accreditation required. Exhibit professional behavior at all times. Able to: read; write legibly; speak in English (and Spanish preferred) with professional quality; use computer and software programs necessary to the position; troubleshoot and calibrate patient care equipment. Able to relate and communicate positively, effectively, and professionally with others; be assertive and consistent in following and/or enforcing policies; work calmly and respond courteously when under pressure; lead, supervise, teach, and collaborate; accept direction. Able to communicate effectively in English in person, in writing, and on the telephone; think critically; work independently with minimal supervision; perform basic math functions; manage multiple assignments effectively; work well under pressure; problem solve; organize and prioritize workload; recall information with accuracy; pay close attention to detail. Able to distinguish colors and smells as necessary for patient care; hear sufficiently for general conversation in person and on the telephone; identify and distinguish various sounds associated with the workplace/patient care; see adequately to read computer screens, medical records, and written documents necessary to position; discern temperature variances through touch. Licensures and Certifications: Active California Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) license required. Basic life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required.
