Postdoctoral Research Scholar in Machine Learning and Computational Genomics

The Department of Epidemiology at the University of Pittsburgh is seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral research scholar to join the lab of Dr. Seyoung Kim. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research at the intersection of machine learning, computational genomics, and statistical genetics. The candidate will be in a highly collaborative environment at the intersection of population neuroscience and genetic epidemiology in the department and across the university and join a cross-institutional research team focused on neuroscience, aging, and -omics data analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and apply innovative machine learning methods for analyzing genetic, transcriptomic, proteomic, metabolomic, and clinical data from epidemiological cohorts.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of researchers to investigate complex biological and epidemiological questions.
  • Write up the research findings for publication in top-tier scientific journals and conferences.

Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in computer science, statistics, epidemiology, computational genomics, or a related field. Candidates with a PhD in mathematics, physics, and other related areas with strong quantitative skills who are interested in applying their quantitative skills to genetic, genomic, and clinical data analysis are strongly encouraged to apply.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R (C/C++ is a plus).
  • Prior experience working with genomic and other biological data is preferred but not required.

The postdoctoral scholar will be part of a rich collaborative environment with excellence in the areas of public health informatics in the School of Public Health and the School of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. The postdoctoral scholar will have opportunities to participate in career development activities through the department, school, and university, including those at the Office of Academic Career Development that are available virtually, to develop research ideas suitable for funding, including a career development award (K01 or K99/R00), depending on the postdoctoral scholar's interest and goals.
