JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS: A full-time Lab Coordinator - Intermediate Professional position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Christopher Chen in the Neural and Behavioral Sciences Department at the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey PA. The work in the laboratory is focused on understanding how the cerebellum interacts with the brainstem. The principal roles of this job will include in vivo and in vitro electrophysiology, anatomical tracing, microscopy, data analysis, and lab upkeep. Expertise in multi-probe single-unit physiology and optogenetics is necessary. Independent projects are available and can be catered to the candidate's interests. Candidates must be passionate about neuroscience and basic research. They must be flexible, have grit in the face of adversity, be self-motivated and able to work independently. Advanced computer skills are required, and competency in programming (particularly Matlab) is desired. At least 1 year's previous research experience is required, and candidates must be willing to work with rodents. Candidates for this position are required to be able to manage one or two direct reports. The Lab Coordinator - Animal Sciences is responsible for daily laboratory services and operations including ensuring equipment and instrumentation is maintained; creating/updating/revising procedural manuals and ensuring compliance; training and supervising staff; contributing to diagnostic services and research-specific laboratory testing; assisting with developing and reconciling budgets.
This is a limited-term position funded for one year from date of hire, withpossibility of refunding. Minimum Education & Experience
