About the Department
The career program of Dental Hygiene at Georgia State University Perimeter College provides an intensive program of specialized study and general education. It has delivered a highly successful record in training students to become licensed dental hygienists.
In the past 10 years, 98 percent of Perimeter's Dental Hygiene students passed the National Board exam on their first attempt. Past achievements make the health professions department so proud and also bring a responsibility to continue to innovate, explore and shape the teaching and learning of new students.

Prevention and treatment of oral disease are recognized as important factors in a patient's overall health and well-being. A dental hygienist is a licensed member of a dental health team, providing educational, clinical and therapeutic services to patients. Care provided by the dental hygienist includes collection and assessment of data, planning and implementation of care and evaluation of treatment results.

Position Description
Perimeter College invites applications for a clinical instructor or clinical assistant professor position in dental hygiene. This is a teaching-focused position: 90% of the workload is instruction, with the remaining 10% as service. Perimeter clinical faculty are responsible for providing 36 credit hours of instruction per academic year and engaging in service to the department, college, and university. Teaching responsibilities include didactic courses and clinical instruction. Perimeter College faculty maintain a campus presence, and the successful applicant will demonstrate a strong commitment to early undergraduate teaching and learning, and the ability to thrive in an academic setting with an access mission. Perimeter College is a multi-campus institution, and the teaching assignment may be on any of the college's campuses. The dental hygiene program is located on our Dunwoody campus.
Required Experience
2+ years of full-time clinical practice or equivalent as a licensed dental hygienist.
Required Education
Clinical Instructor:
Associate or Bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene at the time of appointment. Faculty must hold a bachelor's degree as mandated by accreditation standards for Dental Hygiene Education Programs by the Commission on Dental Accreditation ( CODA).
Clinical Instructor salary range: $53,350-$60,000.

Clinical Assistant Professor:
Associate or Bachelor's degree in Dental Hygiene at the time of appointment. Must hold a master's degree in dental hygiene or related field.
Clinical Assistant Professor salary range: $60,000-$68,000
Preferred Qualifications/Experience

  • Masters or doctorate in a related teaching field.
  • College teaching experience. One year is preferred and can include experience as a teaching assistant at a college or university.
  • Experience teaching using an online learning management platform.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in high-impact educational practices, scholarship of teaching and learning, building college-to-career linkages, and/or other pedagogical initiatives that enhance student success.
  • Experience or demonstrated interest in scholarship in the discipline and/or scholarship of teaching and learning.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to teach effectively using a variety of methods.
  • Ability to create a sense of belonging for a varied student population and facilitate student learning in both the in-person and virtual learning environments.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent communication, organizational and computer skills (able to maintain appropriate records).
  • Demonstrated knowledge and use of instructional technology.
  • Ability to collaborate with colleagues to achieve discipline, department, or college goals.

Licenses, Certifications, or Registrations, etc
Hold a current state of Georgia license in dental hygiene OR be eligible to apply for and successful obtain a license within 2 months of the appointment date.

Work Hours
Position may require non-standard hours (including day, evening, online, hybrid, weekend and/or other campus locations).
Salary $53,350 - $68,000
