Position Overview
The University of Kansas School of Law seeks to hire a director to teach and oversee the operations of the Veterans Legal Support Clinic (VLS Clinic). This position is a twelve-month unclassified professional staff position. The Veterans Legal Support Clinic is part of the Law School's robust clinical program and helps meet the needs of the area veteran population by providing legal services and community education. The VLS Clinic is in the Lt. Gen. William K. Jones Military-Affiliated Student Center in Summerfield Hall but office space for the director will be at the KU School of Law in Green Hall. This position is grant funded for an initial three years. Continuation of the position beyond three years remains contingent upon securing additional funding.

The successful candidate must be eligible to work in the U.S. by the effective date of the appointment. Job Description 65% - The director manages the overall operations of the VLS Clinic. This includes administering the clinic, providing direction and leadership, supervising students, and support staff, obtaining and maintaining grants to fund the VLS Clinic, and ensuring that all required grant reports are properly prepared and submitted. Supervision of students involves providing guidance and oversight on their cases and meeting regularly with interns to ensure that they are receiving proper instructional support.
15% - The director is responsible for teaching the classroom component of the VLS Clinic and developing curriculum, course materials, and syllabi as necessary. The director evaluates student work and administers and grades assignments and exams. 15% - The director maintains a regular caseload and maintains active engagement and outreach in the veteran community and with the veteran legal clinical education community. 5% - The director supervises and coordinates the work of a staff attorney, administrative assistant and student employees and performs other duties as required and necessary to ensure clinical program success.
