Department Information
Undergraduate degree programs include 4 year BS and 5 year BS/MS programs in Biology and Bioinformatics.Graduate degree programs include: MS and PhD in Biology, MS and PhD in Bioinformatics, MS and PhD in Computational Science and Engineering as well as PhD in Quantitative Biosciences, Ocean Sciences and Engineering, Applied Physiology, and Dual Degree Doctorate of Physical Therapy/ Doctor of Philosophy. Research strengths include: Computational Biology and Bioinformatics, Ecology, Evolution, Integrative Physiology, Microbial Dynamics and Infection, Neuroscience, Molecular and Cell Biology, Molecular Biomedical Sciences. The School is home to the two largest and most diverse undergraduate majors in the College of Sciences: Biology and Neuroscience. Faculty members in the School of Biological Sciences have the opportunity to work with students from all majors on campus.

Job Summary

The Najafi lab (www.najafilab.org) has multiple openings for Research Technicians 1, 2 or 3 to assist with experiments in the field of systems and behavioral neuroscience. We use mice to understand the neural circuits that generate and update predictions about our rapidly changing world. We are looking for a highly motivated and well-organized applicant to fill in this position. The applicant must commit to a minimum of 2 years. Preference is given to applicants who can commit for longer.

Perform a variety of technical activities required for conducting tests and experiments in a school or research laboratory within the Institute. Includes data collection and analyses, experiment preparation and equipment setup and operation. This position will interact on a consistent basis with: academic and research faculty, co-workers. This position typically will advise and counsel: NA. This position will supervise: NA.

Responsibilities

Job Duty 1 -
Gather, compile and summarize data in conjunction with Description assigned scientific tests, experiments, etc

Job Duty 2 -
Prepare statistical analyses and maintain related records.

Job Duty 3 -
Operate various equipment used in research studies.

Job Duty 4 -
Participate as directed in experiment design and preparation.

Job Duty 5 -
Participate as directed in preparation of presentations and manuscripts.

Job Duty 6 -
Maintain laboratory equipment.

Job Duty 7 -
Perform other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

Educational Requirements
Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Required Experience
One to two years of job related experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with surgery and behavioral training of mice null -Experience with tissue processing
  • Experience with building rigs
  • Experience with methods for recording and perturbing neural activity, e.g., imaging, electrophysiology, optogenetics, etc.
  • Coding skills (python, MATLAB, etc.)

SKILLS
This job requires working knowledge of research lab equipment and support processes and practices. Includes skill in data organization, statistical analysis and use of statistical and scientific computer applications.

Salary range:

Research Technician 1-salary range $16.00-$20.00 per hour
Research Technician 2- salary range $18.00-$23.00 per hour
Research Technician 3- salary range $23.00 -$26.00 per hour

Location: Onsite (Atlanta, GA)

Job grade: S2 - S3
