The George Washington University seeks a temporary department administrator to provide enhanced business operations and financial administrative support to the GW Center for Excellence in Public Leadership (
CEPL), part of the College of Professional Studies. This will be a hybrid position with 1 day in person in Arlington, VA and 4 days remote from November 2024 - May 2025. There may be more days required in-person during the training period.
This experienced administrative position reports to the
CEPL Director. The core responsibilities are to manage the business operations, primarily in the areas of compliance and financial management, to support the development and preparation of budgets and financial reports for contracts, grants, and other funds, and to coordinate and participate in a variety of human resources activities such as coordinating the hiring of temporary consultants and instructors.
Specific responsibilities will include:
Financial Management
- Track every expense paid for by the Center against all program budgets (Accounts Payable Log)
- Pay all invoices, serving as the liaison for accounts payable and CEPL vendors
- Prepare and submit monthly invoices for the Cafritz Awards Program
- Accounts Receivable, collect every dollar of revenue for programs completed by the Center (approximately 300 invoice per year and 330 deposits a year)
- Ensure that all federal and municipal programs are entirely invoiced (approximately 25-30 agencies - not including open enrollment)
- Complete all billing documentation supporting invoices
- Follow up on all invoices outstanding to ensure payment with Agency points of contact
- Manage expenses and receipt of revenues
- Review Program Proposals for profitability and synthesize program budgets into FY Budgets
- Add new programs to current FY Budgets and future projections, where appropriate
Business Operations/General Administration
- Compliance monitoring and maintenance for GW tax documentation, liability Insurance, DC Government contracts, EEO forms, GSA quarterly sales reporting, small business reporting, and others.
- Create and track engagement letters for part-time faculty, consultants, and guest speakers.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues in the Finance Office and Faculty Affairs.
Performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position. |
Minimum Qualifications: |
Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/
GED, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. The degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. |

- Highly organized and detailed person with a strong interest and established skills in business operations.
- Prefer 2+ years of experience with budgets, tracking expenditures, and invoicing.
- Experience with GW procurement and financial systems is highly desired.
- Experience with grants, contracts, and government compliance.
