The Opportunity

The Department of Counselor Education and School Psychology (CESP) invites applications for a 12-month, non-tenure earning research associate position in the Counselor Education program, anticipated to begin Spring 2025. This position is located on the Orlando campus and is funded through a grant program "Project STAR" (Systemic School Treatment and Response).

The selected candidate will contribute to the Counselor Education program's mission by teaching a variety of graduate level counseling courses and advising students. This position will involve primarily teaching school-based practicum and internship courses and supervising graduate counseling students as they complete clinical hours within school settings. In addition, the position will hold minimal administrative duties associated with Project STAR, including fostering community partnerships central to the work done through the project, hosting supervision sessions for STAR interns, and assisting with STAR data collection.

The ideal candidate will be a dynamic individual with strong teaching, supervision, and interpersonal skills.

The Counselor Education program has been ranked among top-level Counselor Education programs in the country by U.S. News & World Report since 2007. The Counselor Education program offers the following degrees: master's degrees in clinical mental health counseling (M.A.), marriage, couple, and family therapy (M.A.), and school counseling (M.A., M.Ed.); Educational Specialist Degree in school counseling (Ed.S.); and a doctoral degree (Ph.D.) in education-counselor education and supervision. Additionally, the program offers certificates in play therapy; and career counseling. The clinical mental health counseling (M.A.); marriage, couple, and family therapy (M.A.); school counseling (M.A., M.Ed.); and counselor education and supervision (Ph.D.) programs are accredited by CACREP. Minimum Qualifications:


  • A doctorate in counselor education or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

  • The selected candidate must also have a specialization in one or more areas appropriate to the program's degree offerings, be eligible for licensure or certification as a Mental Health Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, or School Counselor, and have experience in graduate-level teaching and supervision.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • An earned doctorate from a CACREP-accredited doctoral program and/or meet core-faculty criteria as defined by CACREP.

  • Licensed or certified as a Mental Health Counselor, Marriage and Family Therapist, or School Counselor.

  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with linguistically, ethnically, or other diverse populations.

  • Experience working as a practicing professional counselor.

  • Experience in clinical supervision with counselors-in-training.

  • Active membership(s) in professional organization(s).

  • Evidence of leadership in professional counseling organizations.
