Job Summary

The Coordinator, First Year Experience coordinates and oversees the development, implementation, and logistics of Eagle View Orientation, an impactful program that welcomes over 6,500 students and families through orientation annually. This role collaborates with the Director to deliver results within Eagle View Orientation and for all First Year Experience and Retention Programs.

Job Description

Typical duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Coordinates, oversees, develops, and implements the Eagle View Orientation program. Assists the Director with assessment of program success and achieving program goals.
  • Responsible for program development, event management, evaluation, and implementation of mandatory orientation programs for First Time in College and Transfer students.
  • Supervises and coordinates the recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of a large team of student employees. Directly supervises and coordinates the recruitment and selection process of paraprofessional graduate interns.
  • Develops and implements a comprehensive, semester-long learning curriculum for student employee training and supplemental training.
  • Supervises the department's student marketing assistant and provides overnight for the department's social media accounts, including oversight all student employee-run social media accounts.
  • Responsible for the design and publication of the university's online orientation modules and Eagle View Orientation app powered by Guidebook.
  • Oversees the peer mentorship component of 24 SLS 1101 University Transition courses
  • Supports the development and implementation of transition programming including extended orientation, Eagle Family Weekend, and Weeks of Welcome events.
  • Assists with the development and implementation of program evaluation tools and collaborates with university stakeholders to improve orientation and First Year Experience programs.
  • Assists with the development and execution of all First Year Experience and Retention Program activities and events.
  • Gives presentations on campus and in the community. Represents First Year Experience and Retention Programs at recruitment yield events such as Eagle EXPO and Say Yes to the Nest.
  • Attends trainings and may travel during the work day to offsite locations.
  • Stays current on trends in higher education mentorship, and may participate in professional organizations, conferences, and workshops.

Minimum Requirements for a Coordinator, First Year Experience Level I:

  • This position requires either six years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and two years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient in Microsoft office (Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Minimum Requirements for a Coordinator, First Year Experience Level II:

  • This position requires either eight years of directly related full-time experience or, as an alternative, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in an appropriate area of specialization and four years of full-time experience directly related to the job functions.
  • Experience operating a personal computer and proficient with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Any appropriate combination of relevant education, experience, and/or certifications may be considered.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of or ability to learn student information systems such as Banner.
  • Knowledge of involvement theories and how they pertain to student success and persistence.
  • Knowledge of FERPA Regulations for handling student records.
  • Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities.
  • Skill in using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to deal effectively in a team environment.
  • Advanced verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to understand, interpret, apply, and explain policies and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational skills and an ability to prioritize and complete simultaneous projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work independently to complete assignments.
  • Ability to utilize data and information to make decisions and projections.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build strategic relations with colleagues, coworkers, constituents, and volunteers.

Applicants will be evaluated for roles as either Coordinator, First Year Experience Level I or Coordinator, First Year Experience Level II based on their qualifications.
