General Responsibilities
Workforce Programs Specialists work in the Workforce Development unit of the Division of Workforce, Career & Community Education by implementing the college's strategic plans related to academic standing and student completion.
Work Performed

  • Coordinate strategic initiative partnership (SIP) meetings for communication, development of employer training programs and externship design for Certified Logistics Associate (CLA) program
  • Recruit, assess, admit, register and manage documentation of candidates for CLA program
  • Complete subrecipient agreements and grant reporting requirements
  • Coordinate and conduct employer trainings
  • Administer candidate placement into externships through interviews with employers, match job coaches to job sites
  • Plan and deliver completion ceremony
  • Perform program assessments and implement adjustments
  • Monitor students in other assigned courses
  • Assist students in academic jeopardy or when extra assistance is required
  • Refer students to appropriate support services
  • Provide knowledge about academic success skills
  • Writing, reviewing, and submitting monthly grant reports.

* Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
* Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
* This job is on-site with local travel required.
* Experience working in advising, retention, or counseling within a college setting, community college experience preferred
* Knowledge of current student success strategies
* Experience working with diverse populations
* Ability to prepare, compile, write and review reports
* Excellent computer skills

* Flexibility is required in this fast-paced program.
* Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.

Howard Community College offers competitive salaries, excellent medical and dental selections, tuition reimbursement and paid leave programs. As a participating member of the Maryland Retirement and Pension System, HCC offers two retirement options: The Pension, which requires a 7% employee contribution and The ORP, a 403(b) with a 7.25% employer contribution only. Employees in positions that do not require a bachelor's degree must participate in The Pension. Employees that possess a bachelor's degree and hold professional positions that require a bachelor's degree may choose to participate in either The Pension or The ORP.
