Summary:
The Special Procedures/Cardiac Cath Technologist performs a variety of technical procedures for the application of prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological assessment, diagnosis and therapy. Works under the direction of a radiologist.
Assists physicians with minimally invasive, image-guided vascular procedures, including angioplasty, stenting, thrombolysis, and others to capture images of blood vessels and treat organ-system diseases.

Responsibilities:
1.Performs diagnostic, special, cardiac cath and radiographic procedures, including vascular access assessments, vascular diagnostic procedures, vascular interventional procedures and nonvascular procedures.
2.Prepares patient for exams. Administers prescribed medications and contrast media according to provider orders. Demonstrates knowledge of IV therapy techniques (i.e., verifies type, concentration, amount and expiration date) and maintenance.
3.Performs QC tech functions as requested.
4.Takes appropriate precautions to minimize radiation exposure to patient.
5.Confirms that pertinent forms (i.e., consents) are complete for procedures.
6.Ensures documentation is complete and accurate in all systems. Monitors and records all procedural data.
7.Performs QC tech functions as requested.
8.Assists in developing, implementing and evaluating quality management programs for Special Procedures, Cardiac Cath and Diagnostic Radiology.
9.Demonstrates equipment and procedure competency during call-back procedure, (???)
10.Maintains, cleans, and restocks assigned room and notifies supervisor of unavailable supplies.
11.Works at such a pace and demonstrates organizational skills as to ensure no backlogs of work or undue delays in patient flow.
12.Operates equipment and technology safely and properly. Reports problems or malfunctions to supervisor.
13.Demonstrates a willingness to assist where ever needed. Has an understanding that shifts may have to be altered due to workload or staffing at supervisor's discretion.
14.Assists the Diagnostic Supervisor with instruction of new teammates.
15.Assists the clinical instructor with instruction of student technologists.
16.May be requested to function as In-Charge Technologist in the absence of the Diagnostic Supervisor in assigning, delegating, or instructing other technologists and/or students.
17.Performs QC tech functions as requested. (compare with #7)
18.Is available and flexible to take call as required to ensure coverage for the area.
19.Completes continuing education and in-service programs to meet regulatory and job requirements.
20.Actively participates in staff meetings and on committees as requested.
21.Participates in performance improvement activities.
22.Presents and promotes a professional demeanor at all times, establishes high standards of customer service, supports responsibility, pride, and teamwork, remains calm under pressure, and offers reasonable solutions for problems.
23.Demonstrates appropriate interaction with and provides recommended care and services to all patients. Exhibits knowledge and basic understanding regarding the needs of neonatal, adolescent, pediatric, adult and geriatric patients, and the cultural needs of all patients.
24.Applies knowledge of principles of standard precautions. Routinely uses PPE to avoid risk of exposure to self and others.

Education
Completion of two years of formal Radiologic Technology training in a school approved by the Council of Education of the American Medical Association.

Licensure/Certification
Registration by the ARRT (American Registry of Radiologic Technologists) required or registry eligible.
Vascular-Interventional (VI) Radiography certification required or obtained within 24 months of hire.
BLS certification required.

Experience
Minimum one year experience as a Registered Diagnostic Technologist required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
*Demonstrated knowledge of Radiology Special Procedures/Cardiac Cath equipment, special procedure examination and cardiac cath protocols, and specific supplies used.
*Demonstrated knowledge of Radiology Special Procedure/Cardiac Cath equipment, examination protocols and specific supplies.
*Ability to work independently.
*Ability to work at such a pace and demonstrate organizational skills as to insure no backlogs of work or undue delays in patient flow.
*Ability to demonstrate leadership qualities, e.g., maturity, job knowledge, professionalism, communication skills, etc.
*Ability to assume responsibilities for department function in the absence of on-site supervision.
*Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
*Proficient with MS Office and Epic, with the ability to learn new software rapidly.

Valid NC Driver's License: No
If driving a Wayne UNC Vehicle, must be 21 years old and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
