Job Summary and Purpose:

The Molecular Research Technician II works with the Genomic Platforms team. The Technician supports the overall program goals and strategy of the group which will include significant laboratory activities such as the synthesis of pathogen target genes and construction and assessment of SRV candidates. The Technician will also amplify large quantities of DNA to be used in SRV production.

Responsibilities and Key Duties:

  • Pre-project implementation, laboratory management and pre-clinical development.
    • Appropriately uses and maintains lab equipment. Ensures safe removal of waste. Manages lab needs (i.e. reagent supply).
    • Prepares, purifies, qualifies and labels reagents for experiments and continuously monitors the stock.
    • Ensures proper documentation and recording of the test in the lab journal and/or electronic database
    • Contributes to analytical parameters, protocol and method writing. Performs analysis, document and recording test for feasibility and optimization.
  • Analytical development, analytical service.
    • Carries out routine analytical test accurately. Strictly adheres to lab methodologies and protocols. Calculates results.
    • Contributes to the feasibility and optimization of work by performing laboratory tests.
    • Contributes to analytical parameters, protocol and method writing.
  • Compliance
    • Ensures proper documentation of R&D related tests.
    • Contributes to SOP writing and complies with all related tests.
    • Stores and manages samples, strictly following R&D rules.
  • Molecular cloning and DNA analysis techniques (e.g. PCR, QRT-PCR, gel electrophoresis, nucleic acid purification, ligation, bacterial transformation, Next Generation Sequencing).
  • RNA synthesis and analysis techniques (e.g. in vitro transcription)
  • Mammalian cell culture and transfection/transduction.
  • Protein expression analysis techniques (e.g. Protein Isolation, Western Blot, ELISA, IFA)
  • Supports scientists in assay development

    • Fundamental techniques of molecular biology
    • Understanding of RNA synthesis techniques
    • Biochemical and/or cell-based assays relevant to virology/immunology
    • Recombinant protein expression, purification, and analysis

Qualifications:

Education - Requires a BS in Molecular Biology, Cell Biology, Immunology, Virology or related field, MS degree considered a plus

Work Experience - Three-years relevant laboratory experience in industry or academia is preferred; focus on molecular cloning, sequencing, protein expression/characterization (IFA and Western blot).

Other (consider certifications, specialized knowledge and/or training, etc.) -

  • Proficiency in aseptic techniques
  • Detail oriented with an ability to independently record scientific progress
  • Understand molecular and cellular biology techniques. Previous experience with virology and viral vector construction as an alternative.
