This is a Shift Position! The Employee will be assigned to either 1st Shift(12:00am-8:00am), or 3rd Shift (4:00pm-12:00 am) and does not usually rotate between shifts.
While some accommodation may be made to preferred schedule,
CSP Management will assign primarily on needs of the Plant. Will be scheduled 2 out of every four weekends. No on-call rotations. This is an essential worker. Some additional night and or weekend hours may be necessary to fulfill the needs of the organization. |

Position Summary |
Servicing over 100 structures with 24-hour steam/heating needs, UGA's Central Steam Plant is a vital necessity to the overall success and health of our university. This individual will perform duties related to any or all levels of boiler operator experience/licensure. With the 24-hour service needs of campus, this position may be assigned to either of the following shifts, 1st Shift (12:00am- 8:00am), or 3rd Shift (4:00pm-12:00 am) and does not usually rotate between shifts.
The employee will gain Central Steam Plant (
CSP) specific experience by acquainting themselves with the foundational knowledge of the tools, equipment, and materials related to boilers and steam production. This incumbent will provide mentoring in the following areas: including by not limited to, overall plant safety, operation, servicing and repair of high-pressure steam boilers, pumps, motors, fuel oil and gas controls, forced draft systems, safety devices, and electronic computer operated boiler controls. This employee will operate rate high pressure boilers by adjusting to campus load as necessary, take hourly readings for monitoring and tread analysis. This position will perform immediate actions calmly and safely in times of equipment failure or emergency. |

- Ability to react quickly & calmly in emergencies.
- Ability to read instruments and gauges.
- Ability to maintain accurate records and interpret data.
- Possess basic math skills.
- Basic Interactive computer skills.
- Familiarity with basic hand tools with ability to make basic repairs when necessary.
- Ability to understand and comply with moderately complex oral and written instruction.
