Position Responsibilities

Deltek is seeking an experienced architect or engineer with people-management experience to manage the day-to-day operations of the specification writing team responsible for the AIA MasterSpec and Deltek SpecText master guide specification libraries, delivered through Deltek Specpoint.
As the Specifications Operations Lead, you will manage staff performance and be responsible for organizing the team's work to support internal and external priorities.Responsibilities

  • Hire, supervise, and manage performance of the specification writing team of architects and engineers.
    • Ensure team adheres to established procedures and processes for content updates.
    • Set writer priorities and goals and evaluate team performance against those goals.
    • Balance resources between staff and external consultants to maximize team productivity.
    • Ensure writers are participating in industry associations and events to build knowledge in their area of expertise.
    • Provide coaching and leadership to help team adapt to new ways of working.
  • Manage specification writing consultants.
    • Allocate consultant budget among writing team.
    • Manage contracts, SOWs, and requisitions. Ensure timely receipt of invoices and resolve any payment issues.
    • Recruit new consultants as needed to fill gaps in staff expertise.
  • Manage the content update Roadmap for MasterSpec and SpecText, in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
    • Ensure team meets contractual obligations for content updates (timeliness, percentage of library updated, etc.).
    • Establish tracking mechanisms to manage and balance update requests from AE customers, BPM customers, other stakeholders, and internal update procedures.
    • Adjust writer priorities and assignments as needed to reflect shifting demands.
  • Work with other team leaders to develop training for writers that encompasses Deltek specification writing principles, product review best practices and Deltek-specific rules, and Specpoint processes.
  • Collaborate with Specification Technical Lead to plan AIA peer review committee meetings and act as liaison for the committee of their discipline.
  • Work closely with Specpoint product team on development of internal content management features and functions.

Qualifications


  • Licensed architect or engineer in good professional standing. If an architect, must be member in good standing of the American Institute of Architects (AIA).
  • Deep knowledge of Construction Specifiers Institute (CSI) specification writing conventions, including MasterFormat and Section Format. CDT certification preferred. CCS and/or CCCA certifications a plus.
  • Knowledge of Uniformat conventions a plus.
  • Knowledge of sustainability rating systems a plus.
  • 10 years of experience in building construction for firms specializing in engineering, architecture, construction management, specification consulting, or project management. Experience must include writing project specifications and conducting product review.
  • At least 5 years' people management experience.
  • Familiarity with project management and content management best practices. Comfortable working in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Must be collaborative, open to working in new ways, and able to provide constructive feedback.
  • Must be able to juggle multiple projects at the same time and professionally deal with colleagues and customers across disciplines.
  • Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office suite of products. Experience with BIM, Revit, and other design and visualization tools desired. Willingness to learn new technologies.

Compensation Information

The U.S. salary range for this position is $98000.00 - $147000.00. This range is subject to change as Deltek takes a number of factors into consideration when determining individual base pay, such as location, job-related knowledge, skills and experience. Certain roles are eligible for additional rewards, including incentive compensation and equity.
